THIS WEEK’S FEATURE STORY: “Time Management” by Amina Jolbars of Grade 9A
Time management
Lately, students have been busy with school works, assignments, and exams. We have online classes till 2 pm, for the rest of the day we do our school works. Because of this we barely have any time to take care of ourselves or enjoy our time at this time of the year. Having a daily routine and time management is a crucial need that any student must possess. Therefore, proper scheduling of time is important.
Importance of time management
The secret of having a good grade is self-study. But how are we going to self-study if we don’t have any time? A successful student has a schedule, while others don’t. Having proper time management will help us achieve that. Not only is it beneficial for us now but also it is crucial for our future.
How to manage your time
Personally, I use the ‘to-do list’ technique to manage my time. I write all of the things I need to do in chronological order in a journal notebook before I start my day. Also, setting a time limit to complete tasks helps me a lot. For example, I finish all of my homework by 5 pm. After that, I work out till 6 pm to keep my body healthy. Then I practice the piano for 20 min. During all of this, I turn off my phone, because it is a huge distraction. Usually, I try to replace it with a book. I read a book 1 hour before I go to bed and 1 hour after I wake up.
Remember you can do other things to manage your time. Such as; planning what you are going to do, organizing yourself, set a goal for yourself.
Good time management allows you to accomplish bigger results in a shorter period. I started scheduling my time 2 weeks ago and I have already seen a huge change. It gave me a lot of opportunities to do things that I was not able to do before. If you are struggling with school work or anything else, and the time does not feel enough, you should start managing your time.

THIS WEEK’S FEATURE STORY: “Disability Discrimination” by Goomaral Bayaraa of Grade 10B
Disability discrimination occurs when a person is treated less favorably, or not given the same opportunities as others in a similar situation, because of their disability. It can also occur when an unreasonable rule or policy is the same for everyone but has an unfair effect on people with a particular disability.
Example: It would be ‘direct disability discrimination if a nightclub or restaurant refused a person entry because they are blind and have a guide dog.
The Disability Discrimination Act covers people who have temporary and permanent disabilities; physical, intellectual, sensory, neurological, learning, and psychosocial disabilities; diseases or illnesses; physical disfigurement; medical conditions, and work-related injuries.
Society itself teaches people to be aware of disabled people when they are the same as us. Society doesn't accept disabled people as normal, they see them as if they were aliens. Due to the perspective of society, parents teach their children to be aware of them and treat them differently.
Disability discrimination is too much, people should start treating disabled people nicely. We should give them the same opportunity and chance as everyone else. We should respect everyone despite their appearance or ability. Stop disability discrimination.

THIS WEEK’S FEATURE STORY:
“Standards of society”, by Arjan Janarbek of Grade 10B.
I am growing up in a society where every single thing has a set standard. Wherever I go, I am followed by the pressure and compulsion of modern day society’s standards. Why is it that everything must have a set expectation that people are supposed to fulfill? Being terrified of judgment and feeling the need to always be at the top of all standards, is this what we as humans live with? We are letting society set a standard for us when we should be the ones setting standards for ourselves.
The current beauty standard is one of the most absurd merits that I, unfortunately, see daily. Girls and women are expected to have a tiny cinched waist, slim legs, smooth skin, lean arms, and straight teeth but we are not dolls that look perfect every day. Boys and men are expected to be muscular, strong, tall, with broad shoulders, good at sports, good with tools, and confined to the phrase ‘’be a man’’. Society has made it seem like men are not allowed to express their emotions and must be strong all the time when really, they are just human.
What society sees as ‘’acceptable’’ is unrealistic and ridiculous. I believe that happiness is having a sense of personal worth and embracing your imperfections. The modern standards of beauty and acceptability push people to think that they have to meet these unreal expectations. Social media has a big influence on idealized beauty standards as they make people think that that is what we have to look like. We see these models and unrealistic body types that, of course, not everyone can follow. This created an expectation in society and made us all forget what is most important, which is self-love. I believe that every single body type and every single imperfection you might think you have is beautiful. Just because you see the people around you act or think in a certain way, doesn’t mean it is healthy or ‘’normal’’.
We all need to learn how to accept ourselves and not be influenced by the ludicrous standards that society pushes on us. In my point of view, the key to happiness is self-acceptance. Even if society is telling you that one definite standard is acceptable, don’t let it define your self-worth and quality of life.

THIS WEEK’S FEATURE STORY:
“The importance of learning languages”, by Aliya Adilbayeva of Grade 9A.
All living creatures communicate with each other by using signals. However, humans have managed to develop something even greater - language. You don't just talk to people, you also express and evoke your emotions through your words. This reveals wide opportunities for a person, which is why the word is one of the most powerful tools in the modern world.
- What are the benefits of learning languages besides your native?
The more languages a person knows, the more his/her brain cells change from a passive state into an active one. This means that learning languages catalyze functions of cognition and aid in the preservation of memory. As claimed by neurologists from the University of London, the more foreign languages a person knows, the greater the volume of their “cerebral cortex” is. It is also known that learning languages are the best way to prevent Alzheimer's disease. Furthermore, knowledge of a foreign language is an important point in the resume of an applicant for a vacancy.
- But what are the most spoken languages?
Of the 7 thousand languages in the world, English, German and Spanish are the most widely taught languages and are appreciated in many companies. However, if to make a forecast for the next 10 years, it turns out that it is necessary to study English, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic.
- How to learn a foreign language competently and fast?
Learning a foreign language is costly. It requires both financial investment and time. When learning a language, we try to master a whole range of skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening, and vocabulary. Nowadays, we can learn languages by just watching films in our target language. We can even find any fictional or professional books online.
When you start to learn a new language, you need a goal, and a reason to determine why you should continue to learn it in the future. Otherwise, you are likely to become demotivated. Here are some tips:
Talk to yourself. It may seem strange at first, but talking to yourself in a language you learn is an excellent way to improve your skills in speaking.
Surround yourself with it. Pick out a day when you will talk, watch movies, read, and listen to music/podcasts only in the language you are learning. Remember: “Practice makes the master.” By learning at least the 50 most common words a day, you can achieve incredible results. So what are you waiting for? Find a language you truly love and start learning now! We believe in you.
