🇲🇳 The Mongolia Pavilion presents “The Infinite and the Distant: Collective Memory and Contemporary Challenges,” Mongolia’s first-ever National Pavilion at the 16th Gwangju Biennale, marking a historic milestone for Mongolian contemporary art on the international stage.
Organized by the BlueSun Contemporary Art Center of Mongolia in partnership with the Gwangju Biennale and the International Visual Culture & Arts Association (IVCAA), and curated by ANUnaran Jargalsaikhan with co-curator Mungunchimeg Bat-Erdene, the Pavilion brings together new and recent works exploring the relationship between ancestral memory, inherited knowledge, and the challenges of the present.
Drawing from Mongolia’s nomadic heritage, spirituality, relationship with nature, and layered historical consciousness, the exhibition considers how ancient wisdom can inform a future-oriented way of seeing. Rather than offering fixed answers, the Pavilion invites audiences to reflect on what endures, what changes, and what connects us across time and distance.
The exhibition features works by four Mongolian artists Baatarzorig Batjargal, Bat-Erdene Batchuluun, Narbayasgalan Ulambayar, and Tuvshinjargal Tsend-Ayush working across painting, video performance, textile, sound, and light-based installation.
