On Friday evening, the ISY community came together for a special surprise farewell celebration honoring Dr. Gregory A. Hedger as he retires from international school directorships after an extraordinary career in education leadership.

In a touching “This Is Your Life” style format, colleagues and friends reflected on the remarkable impact Greg has had across international schools worldwide. Heartfelt video messages from former colleagues and friends across multiple countries highlighted the lasting legacy he leaves through his leadership, mentorship, compassion, and unwavering commitment to students and school communities.

Greg’s influence reaches far beyond any one school, and the stories shared throughout the evening were a powerful reminder of the indelible mark he has made on international education globally.

Thank you, Greg, for your years of dedicated leadership, service, and care. Your legacy will continue to inspire communities around the world for years to come.

𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
As families look ahead to university, The International School Yangon (ISY) is pleased to partner with Yangon International School (YIS) to offer a free information session for Myanmar students and families.

Hosted at YIS, the session will be led by university guidance leaders from both ISY and YIS, including ISY’s Mr. Mick Amundson Geisel. They will help students and families explore what is possible, what fits, and what steps to consider next.

This free session is open to all students and parents, and may be especially useful for students in Grades 10 and 11.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

At the Lead to Succeed Conference, Ms. Sandy Sheppard, ISY’s Director of Advancement, shared The Inside Out School Strategy with school leaders and professionals working across admissions, marketing, communications, and advancement.

Her presentation explored a powerful idea: a school’s story is not only found in campaigns, brochures, or messages. It is found in the everyday experiences that help people feel welcomed, connected, and part of something meaningful.

Through this lens, Ms. Sheppard shared how admissions, marketing, and communications can work together to build trust, strengthen belonging, and reflect the real life of a school community.

This work reflects the care and clarity Ms. Sheppard brings to sharing ISY’s story, with a deep understanding of the people, relationships, and everyday experiences that make our school community so very special. 💛

We are honored to share that ISY received the Service Learning Award at this weekend’s ASEAN School Awards 2026 ceremony, a regional celebration of educational innovation, excellence, and impact across Southeast Asia.

This recognition is particularly meaningful because service learning is such a big part of life at ISY. It helps us learn from the world around us, connect with others, and engage with our wider community.

ISY was also named a finalist for two other awards, the Innovative Marketing Award and the Strategic Plan Award. Together, these recognitions reflect the care, purpose, and shared commitment that shape our school, from the way we tell our story to the way we plan for the future.

Congratulations to our students, families, faculty, staff, community partners, and the leaders who continue to champion service learning at ISY. This is a wonderful moment for our school, and one we celebrate with deep gratitude.

𝘛𝘸𝘰 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴, 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴.

🎥 Looking back on our recent production of 𝘖𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘜𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴, our students’ talents took center stage, from the performances to the set design, with creativity and teamwork evident throughout.

🎶 The music, singing, and dance routines helped bring the performance to life, as songs grew in confidence, harmonies came together, and performers brought their characters to life on stage.

🎨 Behind the scenes, each rehearsal played its part, ideas taking shape and performers refining their craft as they worked together with growing confidence. By the time the curtain went up, it was clear how much work had gone into it and how much had been built together.

𝗜𝗦𝗬 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆
The Service Learning Awards Ceremony recognizes students for their commitment to contributing in meaningful and consistent ways. Hosted by our Secondary School, it reflects a culture of service learning across ISY, including contributions from our Elementary students.

At ISY, service learning grows through relationships and a deep understanding. Students spend time with community partners, listening, learning, and contributing in thoughtful, relevant ways.

Through these experiences, students see the impact of their contributions. They also recognize what they gain in return: perspective, responsibility, and a stronger understanding of the world around them. That consistency of engagement matters. It shapes how students approach opportunities beyond ISY, including how they present themselves in university applications, where sustained involvement and genuine commitment are valued.

We also acknowledged Dr. Gregory A. Hedger, whose leadership has played an important role in shaping service learning at ISY. His influence continues to be seen in the opportunities available to students and the impact of their work.

From the moment you step in, you feel it immediately: a space shaped by wonder, creation, and possibility.

In this highly engaged environment, a VEX Robotics team tests, adjusts, and refines its code.

Nearby, others measure, cut, sew, and shape. Across the STEM program, VR experiences open up new possibilities, allowing learners to explore an ancient city and make connections in real time. A 3D printer brings an idea to life, layer by layer. A laser cutter transforms a design into a tangible object.

Digital tools and hands-on craft work side by side, building precision, creativity, care, and purpose. ISY learners design and build with intention, creating tools and solutions that support our community partners in meaningful, practical ways.

Here, learning is active, visible, and constantly evolving, part of a wider culture of learning at ISY.

At ISY, our educators shape learning in our classrooms while staying connected to the wider IB community through ongoing collaboration and exchange.

Recently, 𝗥𝗮𝗷𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗝𝗵𝗮 (𝗜𝗦𝗬 𝗜𝗕𝗗𝗣 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿) presented at the IB Global Conference in Mumbai. In his session, Authenticity by Design: Rethink, Redesign, Rehumanize Assessment in the Age of AI, Raj explored how student voice, process, and meaningful learning can sit at the center of assessment.

Equally important, this experience is about learning alongside others. Through dialogue with educators from around the world, ideas are exchanged, challenged, and refined. This ongoing connection between ISY educators and the IB community continues to strengthen our practice, shaping learning in ways that are both locally grounded and globally informed.

The Gala supports the Chinthe Fund, linking student-led initiatives with community partnerships across education, health, and wellbeing. ISY students work alongside local partners, building relationships and applying their learning in real contexts over time.

A special moment of the evening was the recognition of Dr. Hedger as this year’s ISY Community Service Award recipient, recognizing the impact of his leadership and long-standing commitment to service learning.
