Charity teaching classes led by students to provide educational support to children within Hlaing Thar Yar Township

31/05/2025

Dear friends, family, and community,

After over a year of laughter, learning, and love, we’re writing to share that Hlaing Thar Yar Kids will be pausing as the co-founders prepare to begin a new chapter in college. This decision wasn’t easy, we’ve poured our hearts into this project, and every single moment spent with our students has been unforgettable.

We started Hlaing Thar Yar Kids in hopes of giving children, whose education was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, a space to grow, dream, and learn while having fun. Thanks to your support, we were able to do just that.

While this chapter is closing, our story isn’t over. We truly hope to return to this work in the future, and maybe even grow it into something bigger.

In the spirit of giving back, we’ve donated the remaining funds from your generous contributions to a relief group currently helping with the rebuilding efforts in Mandalay. We believe this is the best way to continue the cycle of care and compassion that has defined this journey.

Thank you for supporting us, and most importantly, for supporting the kids.

Sincerely,
🌻 Hlaing Thar Yar Kids

This week, the students practiced sentence structures by creating our own sentences!
The kids practiced putting together subjects, verbs, and objects to build strong, clear sentences. It’s all about learning by doing — and they’re getting better every week! 💪

🌻Sincerely,
Hlaing Thar Yar Kids

We’ve wrapped up adjectives and adverbs, and now it’s time to dive into sentence structures! 📚 This week, the kids are learning how to build clear and exciting sentences. They’re practicing with subjects, verbs, and objects, and we’re even adding in some games to make their writing more fun!
We can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

🌻 Sincerely,
Hlaing Thar Yar Kids

This week we got into adjectives! The kids learned how to describe people, places, and even their favorite foods. We ended with a game where they had to match adjectives to pictures. Amazing work!

This week, our students put their vocabulary to the test with a fun game of Hangman! They challenged each other using words they’ve learned in the past lessons, an engaging way to reinforce their knowledge. Great job, everyone!

This week, we revisited one of our very first activities with the kids. They created fun artworks featuring their names and birthdays, showing off their pictures! It was such a great way to kick off the new year and use what they’ve learned in the past. We are so proud!!

This week, we shifted from months and numbers to something more fundamental: pronouns. It’s a powerful step in understanding how we communicate. Here’s to mastering the basics!

This week in class, we went over the months of the year in English and by the end of the lesson, they were confidently writing them out in order on the board all by themselves. Seeing their excitement and progress reminds us why we do this. Small steps lead to big achievements!! 🗓️🎉
