Is College or University Necessary?
Howdy! 🤠 I get asked this question a lot since I didn’t go to a university and I wrote it in both Burmese and English because I think it’s important for my fellow Burmese friends 🙆🏻♂️.
Also, I am just sharing my experience, not a suggestion.
The main reason people go to college is to get a job related to their field. A degree offers structure, credentials, and access to opportunities, but it does not guarantee employment.
I graduated with an associate degree and secured a white-collar corporate job through experience and skills, while many others spend over $100,000 on a bachelor’s degree with no job guarantee. This raises an important question: if someone has already achieved their dream job in their field, what is the point of paying more money for school purely for a title?
That said, learning should never stop. Having a job does not mean growth is finished. Continuous learning through work, mentorship, self-study, or training is essential to stay relevant and improve professionally.
College is one path, not the destination. What ultimately matters is skills, experience, and the commitment to keep learning, with or without a degree.
