Scenario 1:
A mother brings her little baby to a clinic with cough and runny nose. She already started giving him some cough medication she got from another doctor but she doesn't know what the name of the medicine is. The doctor prescribes her baby with a cough syrup. After taking this medication the baby starts to sweat, has difficulty breathing and his pulse becomes very rapid. Turns out, the doctor prescribed her with the same medication and the child received an overdose of the cough medicine.
Scenario 2:
A mother brings her child to the doctor because of fever. When her doctor asks her if her child has allergies to any medications she vaguely remembers he developed a rash after some medicine but she doesn't remember what it was. The doctor prescribes her with fever medication. 20 minutes after taking that medication the baby develops severe swelling of his face, lips and tongue and he stops breathing. Turns out, that was the medication he was allergic to.
Scenario 3:
A mother goes to the pharmacy and asks for some cough medication for her 2 year old girl.
She also asks for Paracetamol for her daughter because she has fever as well. 2 days later, the child develops abdominal pain, vomiting and jaundice. Mother takes her to the hospital and blood tests show the child suffers from liver damage. Turns out, the cough medication the child took was a combination that also included Paracetamol. The child was receiving too much Paracetamol from both cough and fever medications for 2 days which caused the liver damage.
Dear mothers, medications are not candy. They can have serious side effects if you don't take them properly. You MUST know the name of the medication you give your child! And
