Our founder and the other two scholars from the University of Cambridge will be participating as speakers in the teach-in event for Climate Justice at Parami University. 👨🏽‍🎓👩🏽‍🎓👩🏻‍🎓
This Worldwide Teach-in event for Climate Justice aims to raise awareness and focus on creating dialogues around climate and justice at universities and communities worldwide. Currently, more than 200 events in 50 countries will be participating in this Worldwide Teach-in event. In Myanmar, this Teach-in event will be hosted by Parami University.
Nyein Zaw Ko, Xiomy Acevedo, and Nkamunu Patita all have different expertise from their diverse communities initiatives in their respective countries and will educate students on controversies and issues around climate change and sustainable development around the world. All three speakers are also recipients of highly competitive and prestigious full-scholarships at the University of Cambridge in the UK. This webinar is part of our ‘Women in Conservation’ initiative to build capacity among women in the nature conservation and sustainability field.
🎒At the end of the 3-hour webinar, students will learn about
1. Controversies concerning fairness and justice surrounding some incentive-based compensation schemes.
2. The role gender plays in the fight against climate change
3. Estimating carbon emissions from daily activities and ways to actively reduce carbon footprint.
📽️Video Competition
Following the Teach-in event on March 29, 2023, students will be able to participate in a video competition to raise awareness about behavioral change. Seasonal festivities tend to be the times when people are more open to changing behavior. These videos aim to raise awareness and encourage people to adopt eco-friendly behaviors during the traditional Burmese new year.
💰There are three prizes: Gold - $300, Silver -$200, and Bronze - $100. The videos that meet all competition criteria will be featured on Parami University’s social media platforms.
🎓More importantly, many prestigious scholarship winners, such as Fullbright, Chevening, and Australia Awards, have built their profile by winning smaller awards like this before applying for prestigious scholarships and top-ranked universities. Thus, this competition can be the first step in a long journey for any aspiring scholarship applicant.

Congratulations to our Founder, Mr. Nyein Zaw Ko, who has today become the first person from Myanmar to gain admission to the prestigious Master in Conservation Leadership programme at the University of Cambridge, UK, funded by a full scholarship from the University and join the Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI).👏👏👏

In the past few years, Mr. Nyein Zaw Ko has dedicated his life to save endangered Irrawaddy dolphins and bring awareness about Myanmar’s urgent environmental issues. Since early 2020, he has led a group of young activists and volunteers to launch the ‘Save Irrawaddy Dolphin’ activism campaign, which achieved outreach of several million locals and support from international conservation NGOs and local fishing communities. The campaign was highlighted in ‘Change’ magazine by the Development Innovation Insider (Diinsider) and featured as a case study by the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU) from the Department of Zoology, University of Oxford. In November 2020, Nyein Zaw Ko and his colleagues were featured as ‘Planet Heroes’ by WWF-Myanmar for their contribution to biodiversity conservation in Myanmar. The initiative also received a grant award from the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), which he uses to collect data about a unique “Cooperative Fishing” traditional practice with a view to applying it as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage” (ICH) under the UNESCO convention.

Let’s give a well-deserved congratulations to our founder for this amazing personal achievement! Yes, s***m whales and baleen whales are among the largest creatures on earth, and their bodies can store tonnes of carbon in the form of organic compounds. When they die and their carcasses sink to the bottom, they provide nutrients to the bottom-dwelling organisms on the ocean floor. On the other hand, whales forage at the depth and excrete on the surface. Whale excretion contains iron and other nutrients that promote phytoplankton growth, which captures about 40% of all carbon released into the atmosphere_4 times higher than the amount the amazon forest captures. Thus, protecting them is a high priority among marine conservation activities.

This is the year of the tiger from the chinese zodiac.
