Ciprofloxacin သည္​ 2nd Generation Fluoroquinolone အုပ္​စုဝင္​ ​ေဆးအမ်ဳိ းအစားျဖစ္​သည္​။ ၎အား ၁၉၈၁ခုႏွစ္​တြင္​ ဂ်ာမန္​သိပၸံပညာ႐ွင္​ Bayer က႐ွာ​ေဖြ​ေတြ႔႐ွိခဲ့သည္​။ ၁၉၈၇ခုႏွစ္​ ​ေအာက္​တုိဘာလ ၂၂ခုႏွစ္​တြင္​ US-FDA မွ first oral broad spectrum antibiotic အ​ေနျဖင္​့ သတ္​မွတ္​ခဲ့ပါသည္​။ ၁၉၉၁ခုႏွစ္​တြင္​ ​ေသြး​ေၾကာသြင္​း​ေဆးရည္​ IV ပုံစံအ​ေနျဖင္​့ စတင္​ထုတ္​လုပ္​ခဲ့ပါသည္​။ Ciprofloxacin အား ကမာၻ႔က်န္​းမာ​ေရးအဖြဲ႔ႀကီး (WHO) မွ Essential Medicines စာရင္​းတြင္​ထည္​့သြင္​းထားပါသည္​။
