The ASEAN Symposium for Youth Leaders (ASYL) is a regional forum designed to equip emerging leaders with insights, networks, and practical perspectives on governance and public policy. Convened by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), this three-day flagship programme brings together youth leaders from across ASEAN countries for networking and regional collaboration.

The theme for this inaugural symposium is ASEAN Youth Leaders: Diverse Perspectives, Shared Future. The symposium is centred on contemporary governance and public policy and features keynote plenaries, facilitated dialogues, and skills workshops led by LKYSPP faculty and invited experts. Today, I am honored to participate in the International Women’s Month Leadership Conference! This global gathering brought together 18 Global Voices of 2026—leaders from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas—to share powerful insights on girls’ education, human rights, and inclusive leadership.
During the conference, we had a meaningful discussion on advancing human rights, promoting peace, and empowering women and girls around the world. It was inspiring to connect with global ambassadors, humanitarians, and advocates, and to explore ways we can collaborate to create sustainable change in our communities.

4 January Myanmar Independence Day

Myanmar’s sovereignty was usurped by the military junta in 1962, plunging the nation into decades of authoritarian repression. Ethnic minorities, particularly the Rohingya, have endured systematic persecution, denationalization under the 1982 citizenship law, and genocidal atrocities, resulting in the displacement of more than 3.6 million people.

On this day, I urge the international community to enforce accountability for crimes against humanity and call upon all people of Myanmar to consolidate on a unified platform. Unyielding solidarity is indispensable for the restoration of genuine independence and justice.

Best regards,
Ro Maung Ming Shwe Jr.
