It all begin with a vision of Ashin Osadha, Second Abbot at Theravada Buddhist Society of America (TBSA) in Half Moon Bay, California, U.S.A. Ashin Osadha has always been a strong believer of making improvement to his hometown, Tharzi village located in northwest region of Myanmar (Burma). In 2003, Ashin Osadha has organized the rebuilding of a new school for Tharzi. In the effort to supp
ort his vision, Hazel Lim-Leong, mother of two of his students (Teresa and Olivia Leong), decided her family would donate the cost of the library. Aye Nyien Oo is chosen to commemorate three of the deceased family members. The mother, the son and the brother. Aye is to respresent Tin Tin Aye, Hazel’s mother. Nyein is to respresnt Nyein Htoon Aung, Hazel’s son and brother of Teresa Leong and Olivia Leong. Oo is to represent Khin Maung Oo, Hazel’s younger brother. Today it is not only a library for the school, but the sole main library for the village. It has becomes a town-centered where walk of all ages come to find their leisure pleasure. The library provides magazine, daily newspaper, weekly and monthly journals, books both in Burmese and English. It is center for research, education, entertainment and many more – the imagination is the limit.
