Montessori Practical Life: Cutting Exercises
In the Montessori approach, Practical Life activities are designed to help the child develop independence, coordination, and a sense of order. Among these, scissor activities—often involving cutting paper strips or playdough 'sticks'—are essential for refining the fine motor muscles of the hand. This activity is not merely about cutting; it is a complex cognitive and physical task that prepares the child for later academic work, such as writing, by strengthening the 'pincer grasp' and improving bilateral coordination between the two hands.
1️⃣To develop the pincer grasp and manual dexterity.
2️⃣To enhance hand-eye coordination through visual focus and physical ex*****on.
3️⃣To practice bilateral integration (using both hands together in a coordinated manner).
4️⃣To foster independence and a sense of accomplishment in a task-oriented environment.
5️⃣To introduce safety protocols and respect for tools.
