Found this incredible glimpse into music history today! 📜 This is the original manuscript for Erik Satie’s Gnossienne No. 1, composed back in 1890.
What makes this handwritten score so revolutionary?
No Bar Lines: Satie intentionally left out time signatures and bar lines, which was unheard of at the time. He wanted the performer to play with freedom, giving the piece its free-flowing, timeless feel.
Mysterious Instructions: Look closely for his unique French notes to the performer like "se mirer" (wonder about yourself).
The Name: Satie invented the word "Gnossienne," likely linking it to ancient Greek "Knossos" or "Gnosis" (mystical knowledge).

"Lightly Row" uses the melody from a traditional German folk and children's song called "Hänschen klein" ("Little Hans").
The original German lyrics were written by Franz Wiedemann in the mid-19th century. The tune became popular worldwide, with different countries creating their own lyrics for the melody.
The song is perhaps most famous today in music education, as it is one of the very first songs that beginners learn to play on instruments like the violin and piano, especially within the Suzuki method.
