Did you know?

First hotels and restaurants in Skopje

*Cafes and restaurants

1) The cafe "Marger" (1953) was located on the square and was the most visited cafe in the city. In the afternoon when the shops closed, many Skopje families came to the cafeteria of the evening. In the night hours, the "Marger" Cafe changed into a bohemian cafe, and visitors were the artists of the city. The cafe was a place for artistic and literary talks

2) The restaurant "Zrinski" had the most modern and largest hall where guests were abandoned, while domestic and foreign cuisine with a variety of drinks was offered. The malls and chairs were colored in mahogany, which complemented the luxurious look of the cafe. The hall was gathering about 400 guests. The restaurant's luggage was very long, filled with trees and flowers. The building was built in 1912 and burnt down in 1926.

*Hotels

The most fruitful year for the development of hotel business in Skopje was 1925, when two large modern hotels were opened in the city, with 30 rooms. The hotels had at most 10 rooms, with a couple of modestly clean beds.

1) Hotel "Paris" was located on King Peter Street, was a primitively decorated and unclean hotel, had its own garden where every evening guests were entertained by theater performances

2) Hotel "Splendid" was located on the street "Pashiceva" and "Kral Petar" and it had 25 rooms with one or two beds, with central heating which started in Skopje hotels in 1932, baths with hot and cold water in each room, other amenities at that time were a rarity.
