What can we learn about continuous innovation from Marvel?

Innovation is as fulfilling as it is tricky. There are many example of organizations that did not translate their ideas into successful products. If and when they succeed the first time, it is even harder to repeat the innovative success over time. Marvel Cinematic Universe is an exception. Over last 10 year they produced 22 movies that are both commercially successful and equally highly acclaimed among expert critics. Despite the fact that Marvel operates in a risky and difficult industry with disrupted business models, they are outperforming their competitors in many different ways. What is their secret sauce? What can other organizations learn from them about continuous innovation. Spoiler alert: Prof. Škerlavaj will talk about universe of innovation and ways to balance both continuity and renewal and present brand new, fresh from the oven article from Harvard Business Review.

Miha Škerlavaj, PhD, is a professor of management at the School of Economics and Business at University of Ljubljana and an adjunct professor of leadership and organizational behavior at BI Norwegian Business School. He is a valued teacher, workshop facilitator and awarded researcher who published in prestigious international research journals including the Academy of Management Journal, the Harvard Business Review, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, the Leadership Quarterly and the Human Resource Management, and a book Capitalizing on creativity: Fostering the implementation of creative ideas at work. His research received attention in global media such as The New York Times. He is involved in several international research collaborations with colleagues from top global business schools. He has extensive practical experience through workshops, trainings and consulting assignments for clients in Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, and China. He teaches PhD, EMBA, executive, and master of science programs in Europe and Asia and regularly facilitates workshops with practitioners on cross-cultural management, organizational development and change, leadership development, human resource management, creativity and innovation management-related topics.
