This activity is being organized within the frames of the project “Preparing for EU Accession: The Future of the Western

Our colleagues from the Faculty of Law, University “Josip Juraj Strossmayer” in Osijek, are announcing the Call for Papers for the 8th International Scientific Conference on EU and Comparative Law Issues and Challenges which will be hosted at the same faculty and is planned to be held on 13 and 14 of June this year.

The conference is entitled - “EU at the crossroads – ways to preserve democracy and rule of law”.

The Call is opened till 31 of January, by which date all interested should submit an abstract in e-form.

Youth Educational Forum, North Macedonia; Center Science and Innovation for Development, Albania and Youth Initiative for Human Rights, Serbia, are launching a Call for Participation in the Regional Youth Leadership Mobility Programme (RYLMP) for 2023/24.

The Programme is open to students and young professionals, young researchers, and youth activists from North Macedonia, Albania and Serbia interested in developing capacities in the field of informed and data-driven advocacy, leadership, activism, and intercultural exchange, and in strengthening regional cooperation.

Candidates shall apply with their individual proposals for data-driven advocacy actions (by filling out the The RYLM Data-Driven Advocacy Action Proposal Template attached to the call and the Application Form) focusing on one of the priority thematic areas:

a) Regional cooperation and European integration;

b) Education and employability;

c) Migration and brain drain;

d) Youth participation, and

e) Youth action for the dual transition: digital and green.

Candidates are encouraged to apply with specific and narrow data-driven advocacy actions within the priority thematic areas mentioned above. After the evaluation, selected participants (RYLMP Fellows) will be matched in groups of three, one participant per country in line with their areas of interest.

Selected participants will spend a two-week research mobility period in each country and will benefit from the financial support provided by the Open Society Foundations to complete their data-driven advocacy actions, including capacity-building, research mobility, and mentoring. The financial support amounts to 2.000 USD and it includes travel, accommodation, allowances, and other related expenses to completing the mobility and data- driven advocacy actions.

The working language of all activities will be English.

Women's Access to Justice in Western Balkans project - Call for Experts

We are glad to invite all interested experts dealing with Gender Equality and Human Rights to consider applying the call for experts published by our colleagues from Council of Europe for the regional project ”Women’s Access to Justice in the Western Balkans”, which is being implemented in the framework of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye - Phase III.

More specifically this call for local experts and researchers, is focused on capacity building and awareness raising on topics related to gender equality and women’s access to justice.

The aim of the project is to strengthen access to justice for women, especially women victims of violence in line with the standards of the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention and to contribute to the development of a gender sensitive justice system in the Western Balkans region.

The Council of Europe is looking for up to 27 local providers to carry out research, develop and implement comprehensive capacity building curricula and materials, and to design and implement awareness raising activities on issues related to women’s access to justice.

Invitation for Application to PhD Colloquium – University of Belgrade, Faculty of Law, May 2023

University of Belgrade, Faculty of Law is organizing the third seminar for PhD candidates titled “PhD Colloquium” which is to be held on 10th and 11th of May 2023 in a hybrid format. More specifically it is being organized by the Institute for Legal Social Sciences of the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Law.
The Seminar is to give young Ph.D. candidates and researchers the opportunity to present their research work, receive constructive comments and suggestions for the improvement of their doctoral dissertation, as well as to exchange ideas with other researchers who are in the similar research phase.
It is open for all interested Ph.D. candidates in the field of law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or other related fields.
The deadline for application is 15th of April 2023, and all interested applicant should send their CVs and a short summary of their doctoral dissertation/research to the following email address: [email protected].
The research summary of the thesis should not exceed 900 words. Besides the CV and a short Ph.D. research summary attached, respected candidates should provide the full name of their mentor as well as the full name of two proposed commentators. The role of the proposed commentators is to provide young researchers and Ph.D. students with useful comments and constructive advice for the continuation of the work on their doctoral thesis. Candidates can propose commentators from any (law) faculty or institute in the region or abroad. The organizing committee of the Ph.D. seminar will send an official invitation for participation to the proposed commentator. In case the commentator is not available or not able to respond to the invitation, the organizing committee reserves the right to independently assign another commentator to the participant.
The final list of participants will be published on the 20th of April on the website of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law and will be sent via e-mail to all selected participants. Participants are kindly requested to confirm their participation by the 28th of April 2023. All participants will have 15 minutes for an oral presentation of their Ph.D. thesis/ research, focusing on one or two key issues and challenges in their research they wish to discuss further with commentators and other participants. This will be followed by the commentators’ feedback (duration 10 minutes) and then group discussion (duration 10-15 minutes).

Call for Applications for Research Stays for “New Challenges for European Integration - Ukrainian War and its implications for the European Union and the Western Balkans” Project

Extension of Deadline

The project “New Challenges for European Integration - Ukrainian War and its implications for the European Union and the Western Balkans” of the Europa-Institut of Saarland University and the South East European Law School Network funded by the German Academic Exchange Service, is aiming to analyze the new challenges for European Integration due to the Russo-Ukrainian war and the implications for the European Union and the countries of the Western Balkans. It puts special emphasis on the EU accession process and the EU neighborhood policy.

Within the project PhD candidates from SEELS members have the opportunity to research in the field of European and International Law at the Europa-Institut of Saarland University for one month. Total number of 5 (five) research scholarships will be awarded for one month in July 2023.

SEELS Network announces the Call for Papers for written works that will be published in the framework of the International Congress of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) devoted to the topic: “The Judicial officer: The trusted third party”. The Congres is organised by Union Internationale des Huissiers de Justice – International Union of Judicial Officers (UIHJ). The upcoming Congress will be held in 2024 in Rio de Janerio (Brasil) from 8th to 10th of May.

The Call for Papers is organized by UIHJ in cooperation with the University of Liège (Belgium), the Ovidius University of Constanta (Romania), the University of Paris Nanterre (France), the University of Toulon (France), the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and the South East European Law School Network (SEELS).

The Master Students of master 1 and master 2 master as well as the Junior Researchers (PhD Students) from the SEELS Network among others, are cordially invited to take part with submission of their papers.

Out of all received works, five best papers will be selected by a jury composed by the President of the UIHJ, the General Reporter of the Congress of Rio de Janeiro and one representative of each partner will be published by Larcier in the written works of the XXV International Congress of the UIHJ.

The best paper will be granted with an invitation to the International Congress of Rio de Janeiro held from 8th until 10th of May 2024 and the possibility to present his/hers paper during one of the panels of the congress, the second-best paper will be awarded with 500 EUR and the third-best paper will be awarded with 250 EUR.
