SEEU Contributes to European Research on ECTS with Focus Group at Skopje Campus
Skopje, May 21, 2025
South East European University (SEEU) successfully hosted a focus group discussion on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at its Skopje Campus Meeting Room, contributing to a Europe-wide initiative to revise the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) Users' Guide.
The event, held from 10:00 to 12:00, was organized by the research and consultancy firm ICF S.A., which has been commissioned by the European Commission to gather insights from higher education institutions across Europe.
Participants in the focus group included academic staff, administrative professionals, and students, who engaged in meaningful discussions about the current use, practices, and challenges related to ECTS. The session placed particular emphasis on evolving trends in higher education such as micro-credentials, blended learning, and student mobility, and how these are impacting credit recognition and accumulation systems across Europe.
The discussion took place in a collaborative and inclusive environment, allowing all participants to freely share their experiences, perspectives, and suggestions. Their contributions will directly support the drafting of recommendations for an updated version of the ECTS Users' Guide, which is scheduled to be presented to the Bologna Follow-Up Group later this year.
In addition to the in-person discussion, participants were also invited to complete an online survey to further inform the research. All data collected during this process is being handled in accordance with strict privacy standards provided in the project’s official privacy statement.
SEEU’s involvement in this initiative highlights its active role in shaping European education policies and its commitment to enhancing academic standards and student mobility through meaningful international collaboration.

What do international students think about SEEU?
As an ELT student from Medipol University in Istanbul, I was both excited and a little concerned upon my arrival in North Macedonia for the Erasmus exchange program at the Faculty of Languages, Cultures, and Communication, Department of English Language and Literature.
I had never been to North Macedonia, even abroad before, so I wasn't sure what I should expect. However, I was warmly welcomed by the International Relations officer, who guided me to the faculty. I had the pleasure of meeting Professor Shpresa Hasani here, and I felt welcomed right away thanks to her amazing character and positive mood. Once I settled in my dorm and received my schedule,
I started attending my lectures. I gained the confidence to put the many new things I learned into practice, and I truly enjoyed every class. The students in my classes were extremely hospitable and always ready to help. I would highly recommend this university
to anyone seeking a creative and interactive learning experience, along with a vibrant campus life.
Thanks to this amazing Erasmus experience, I had the chance to visit two countries by myself. One suggestion I would make is to add more organized social activities and trips for international students outside of the classroom.
