It’s time to end the myths.

A major U.S. cohort study of boys has found absolutely no link between newborn male circumcision and autism, offering major reassurance to parents.

A major new study has found no link between neonatal male circumcision and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), offering powerful reassurance to parents. Published in JAMA Pediatrics, the research analyzed prospective data from 2,771 male children across 14 U.S. sites enrolled in the National Institutes of Health-funded Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Cohort.

The findings debunk lingering public anxieties and online speculation sparked by older, inconsistent observational studies that had previously suggested a potential connection.

The researchers went beyond clinical diagnoses to evaluate autism-related traits and behaviors using validated assessment tools, finding no association whatsoever. Even after adjusting for confounding factors like parental age, family history, and geographic region, the circumcision status of the child had no bearing on their developmental outcomes. The study also ruled out procedural factors, such as the use of acetaminophen during the procedure, leaving parents and pediatricians with clear, comforting evidence to guide their medical decisions.

📘 Policy Recommendation Report Now Published!

I am pleased to announce the publication of the Policy Recommendation Report developed within the Erasmus+ KA220-SCH project:

“Supporting Children with Autism through Physical Education (EmpowerAble)”
Project No. 2024-1-LT01-KA220-SCH-000246848

The report presents evidence-based policy recommendations to support the development and implementation of high-quality inclusive physical education for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Drawing on research findings, pilot implementation, stakeholder consultations, and international collaboration, it offers practical guidance for policymakers, educational authorities, schools, teachers, and other professionals working in inclusive education.
