The EDEC family is writing this with a heavy heart to share the devastating unexpected news of the passing of our beloved EDEC teacher, Alice K. Eknilang. She was not only a great teacher, but also a devoted mother, a sister and a great friend.
As most of you may not realize this, she was involved with the Deaf program from Day 1. She loved teaching and working with Deaf children so much that she was committed to attending the College of the Marshall islands in Majuro to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from the New Student Success in the Pacific (NSSP) in May 2021 which was designed to improve Deaf education in the Pacific.
We will never forget her smile, laughter, and love for our EDEC family. We were truly blessed to have her on this teaching and EDEC journey with us. We know she will always be with us in spirit. Everyday. Everywhere. She is truly loved and missed. 🤟🤟

What a Saturday!
We spent the day on the island of Rongrong, where the oldest high school in the RMI is on.
What a school! Not many are able to graduate from this school as it’s rugged living and takes guts to make it through to graduation.
We enjoyed the performances, theatre of the life on island, and many more.
We also had a men’s basketball game and women’s volleyball game to end our day off with friendly competition.
Komol tata, Marshalls Christian School, for the amazing welcome!

Thank God It’s Friday, indeed!
Majuro Deaf Education Center (MDEC) hosted a very special picnic for the Kwajalein Atoll High School seniors on the island of Kumit!
What a beautiful, relaxing afternoon with great, old and new, friends!
Komol tata to all at MDEC for the warmest welcome!

The agenda today was busy!
We visited College of Marshall Islands. We learned what programs they offer and how to apply for admission.
We had a special chat with Majuro mayor Ladie Jack.
We connected with National Training Commission to learn how they can help people after graduation.
We went to WAM to listen how they give opportunities to people who did not finish school with programs for them to receive a high school diploma AND teach them how to build boats that requires no gas and can carry up to 2 tons, to combat climate change. Those boats that are built are given away to those on outer islands and others.
We learned about how RMI’s Public School System serves our students from our Minsitry of Education’s wonderful commissioners.
What an amazing day!

Today, we visited Tobolar. They are a business that focuses mostly on coconuts. We learned how they use all parts of the coconut to make various popular needs: oil, fertilizer, soap, to name a few. There are absolutely no waste.
We also visited Marshall Islands Marine Resource Authority (MIMRA) and learned how they monitor all cargo coming in and out of the RMI.
Amazing work they do!
