According to the (ISC)ยฒ Cybersecurity Workforce Study, womenโs participation currently makes up approximately 24% of the cybersecurity workforce, with even fewer women holding managerial or senior positions. This begins early on, with fewer females being interested in technology at the grade-school level, which results in fewer women choosing cybersecurity as a profession in industry or academia. It is with this need in mind that โ Strathmore University and Standard Chartered are partnering to run a program for Women in Cybersecurity.
The Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) Fellowship Program by Strathmore University is designed to empower women with hands-on training, mentorship, and resources to thrive in the dynamic field of cybersecurity. Whether you're just starting or looking to level up your skills, this could be your next big step!
The entire program is virtual with the technical training delivered through a Learning Management System, with content developed by subject matter experts in cybersecurity. The training is self-paced, allowing participants to learn at their own speed.
Eligibility:
The program is designed for junior women in the cybersecurity industry or those aspiring to enter the field. The goal is to help them develop the skills and confidence needed to advance in their careers.

Development in Africa with Radio Astronomy (DARA) currently runs a FULLY FUNDED basic training programme in radio astronomy in 8 African countries including Madagascar.
Each year, in each country, up to ten graduates in physics or another relevant discipline undergo basic training in radio astronomy, delivered in four intensive, two-week units. These cover: astrophysics; technical training in using a radio telescope; radio astronomy observation; and data reduction and analysis.
Training is delivered by radio astronomy experts from the projectโs UK and South Africa partners. Trainees also receive a week of computer training in the use of Linux and python from the Centre for High Performance Computing in South Africa. These computing skills underpin many areas of research and commercial activity.โ
The basic training programme is fully funded by the University of Leeds, and therefore trainees will not have to pay a fee or any costs. The training package includes accommodation, meals and travel to the training venues in South Africa and Kenya. An out-of-pocket allowance will also be included to cover other incidental expenses.
Eligibility
- A citizen of the participating countries with a degree in Physics or related fields.
- Anyone wishing to undertake the training or to be re-trained in astronomy. No prior experience of astrophysics is required.
