Along your New Year’s resolutions, let us reflect with Njato Razafimbahiny, who teaches biblical studies and biblical languages at FTBM, and in light of Exodus on God’s gracious providence in refreshing our perspectives.

“Meditating on Exodus 4:18-31 (don't ask me, ‘Why did God almost kill Moses in v. 24?’ because I don't know) on this very first day of a brand new year, I notice that God seems to orchestrate major changes to give his servants fresh perspectives. To provide a context, this passage closes the longest prophetic call narrative in the Bible, where YHWH revealed himself to Moses at Mt Horeb.

“At the beginning of Exodus, the death of the monarchs has been one of these changes. When one Pharaoh died, the new one decided to have nothing to do with Joseph and even ‘shrewdly’ planned to eliminate the Israelites. Then once the Pharaoh who wanted to kill Moses also died, God rekindled his bound with his people and thus called Moses to return to Egypt and to challenge the new Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of Egypt. In the present passage Moses is emboldened, equipped with divine signs and wonders, and commissioned to face Pharaoh.

“Yes, this new year 2024 cannot compare to those major historical events. On a personal level, there is likely no major difference between your yesterday (i.e., New Year’s Eve) and your today (i.e, New Year’s Day). But, perhaps, God uses this new year to refresh your perspectives. The ‘Pharaohs who sought to kill you’ — i.e., the things that caused you to run away from God and your responsibilities — might have been gone with that year that just rolled away. And is God's mighty arm able to equip you to challenge the “new Pharaoh” in your life? Absolutely yes! So, walk with God and answer his calling for he will embolden you in ways that you cannot even imagine.” (Njato R. 1/1/2024)

Today, we want to highlight Charissa WILSON. She is from East Texas. She is a woman of many talents: office administrator, high school teacher, English teacher, archeologist, and so forth. You should know that FTBM offers a free English course to all of its students. And Charissa has graciously and sacrificially been teaching our academic English for three consecutive semesters.

Currently, she studies at Lipscomb University in Nashville and writes her dissertation in Ancient Near East archeology. She has lived in and often travels to Israel for archeological digs.
Those who know her personally, she is thoughtful, sociable, kind, and a cat lover.

TEACHER HIGHLIGHT:

Today, we would like to highlight Tiana RANAIVOARISOA. It is hard to find someone like her who is equally gifted in the academic and administrative aspects of higher theological training. Some think of the Seminary President’s wife as a mere “helper” behind the scenes.

But Tiana wears many hats. She left a good career in France to marry Mandimby and study at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She (is one of the two individuals who) created our current website. She has been running our Registrar's Office and teaching Academic French for three consecutive semesters. Above all, she and Mandimby have three little sons who will always want to be in the video lectures that she prepares online.

Would you praise the Lord with us for the sacrifices that she makes for our Seminary? Pray that she will manage these three jobs (teacher, registrar, and full-time mom) well. Continue to pray for all the preparations to return to Madagascar.

Today we want to highlight our Instructor of Biblical Studies, Njato RAZAFIMBAHINY. He has been involved (alongside Mandimby) since the very beginning of this project, years before our official launching in the Fall of 2022. He taught Old Testament survey (parts 1 and 2) this year. He is writing his doctoral dissertation on the Pentateuch.

For those who know him personally, he loves reading the Bible in its original languages. Recently, he has developed a passion for long-distance running. He is married to Kayla and they have three beautiful daughters. In June 2024, and God willing, his family will move to Luanda, Angola, as missionaries, to serve alongside the Angolan Baptist Convention. Thanks to modern technology, he will continue to teach online for FTBM while living and serving in Angola.
