How to Get Into the Superyachting Industry?

This is the most frequently asked question. I’m happy to answer it, but first, I always explain to aspiring individuals that they need to understand if the profession of a seafarer is right for them.

So, to work as a yacht stewardess (for men, there are other positions on deck), you will need:
1. Be under 35 years of age.
2. Experience in the restaurant or hotel industry.
3. Stress tolerance.
4. Proficiency in English.
5. Ability to travel abroad (no debts, criminal record, valid visas).
6. Funds to complete the necessary courses and to search for your first job (your first contract is more likely to be found through an agency or directly in Europe).
7. Willingness to work for a small salary in the first year.
8. Understanding that, like thousands of others, you might not succeed despite all your investments—time, money, and effort could all be wasted.

What makes the job difficult?
1. Seasickness.
2. Tattoos in visible areas (it’s almost impossible to get hired).
3. Bad habits like smoking, drinking, or drugs (you might be asked to take a test).
4. Elderly parents, a husband, or small children.
5. Health problems (you need to work hard physically).

Should I continue this topic? Next time, I could describe the pros (+) or cons (-) of the profession. What seems more interesting?

Never thought there’s so much traffic in Asia!

Have you ever wondered where the big yachts like to cruise? 🌎👀 This map shows the global cruising patterns of superyachts over 60m within one year. The red zones indicate areas of high activity, showcasing hotspots such as the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.

The Mediterranean remains a firm favourite, with hotspots like the French Riviera, the Adriatic, Italian coastlines and Greek islands. During the winter months, activity shifts to the Caribbean, with destinations like St. Barths, Antigua and the Bahamas.

You can also spot the transatlantic crossings used during seasonal migrations, connecting key yachting hubs.

The map also highlights other destinations with increased traffic, such as the Middle East (including Dubai and Oman), the Indian Ocean (Maldives and Seychelles), and parts of Southeast Asia (including Thailand and Indonesia). There is also interest in regions like Australia, Fiji, and even adventurous destinations like Alaska, while polar areas still remain relatively unexplored.

Ready to shift to a new season ahead??? Jump on a boat in Europe before it departs!

It’s timeee! Mid-November is when most yachts are making the crossing to the Caribbean to kick off the winter yachting season. This annual migration marks the start of the Caribbean season, which typically runs from November through March, bringing busy schedules to popular destinations like St. Barts, Antigua, and the Bahamas.

For crew, this is a good time for employment opportunities, as many yachts ramp up their staffing to ensure they are guest-ready for the busy season ahead.

Following winter, yachts typically return to the Mediterranean in April or May to prepare for the summer season, which extends from May through September. This seasonality creates two main hiring windows, which are important for any crew looking for work.
