The American Studies Center organized a farewell reception in honor of Stuart Hemphill, whose presence at Moldova State University over the past year had a meaningful impact on our academic community.
The event was attended by Joane Kramb, Education and Culture Attachรฉ at the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, who introduced Stuart to the university last summer and helped establish valuable academic and cultural partnerships.
Throughout his time at Moldova State University, Stuart showed dedication to teaching, academic exchange, and intercultural dialogue, inspiring both students and faculty members. Colleagues who collaborated with him shared valuable experiences and gained new perspectives through this partnership.
We sincerely thank Stuart for his contribution, enthusiasm, and positive influence on our university community. During the reception, he was presented with a diploma of gratitude by the president of the center, Lia Butucel, as a symbol of appreciation and a lasting memory of Moldova.

Last week, the American Studies Center, together with the Anglophone Department of the Faculty of Law, organized the 4th edition of the Video Essay Contest dedicated to the topic โFreedom of Expression vs. Responsibility in the Digital Age.โ
As part of the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America, we considered it important to highlight the fundamental democratic principles upon which the USA was built โ freedom of speech, civic responsibility, and critical thinking.

What a great afternoon! ๐บ๐ธโจ
Today we had the pleasure of attending the USA Freedom 250 Festival at Scuarul Teatrului Naศional de Operฤ ศi Balet, celebrating 250 years of American independence in a truly vibrant atmosphere.
The event was officially opened by Chargรฉ dโAffaires Nick Pietrowicz and Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu, setting the tone for a meaningful and engaging celebration.
From inspiring conversations and cultural exchange to live music (including an energetic set by Touchโn Go ๐ธ), the festival brought together community, culture, and great energy.
Weโre grateful for the invitation and for the opportunity to connect, learn, and be part of such a special event. Looking forward to more moments like this! ๐

๐โจ Incorporating Storytelling into English Classes
Yesterday, the American Studies Center, in partnership with America House Chisinau, organized an inspiring workshop dedicated to innovative teaching practices in English language education.
๐ค The session was facilitated by Stuart Hemphill, who introduced participants to creative ways of integrating storytelling into the classroom. Through practical examples and interactive activities, participants explored how storytelling can enhance student engagement, develop language skills, and foster creativity.
๐ฌ The workshop brought together educators eager to enrich their teaching approaches and create more dynamic, student-centered learning environments.

The ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ง ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ hosted an engaging and highly interactive session as part of the Sociolinguistics and Civilization course, bringing American language and culture closer than ever.

The American Studies Center,Moldova State University, represented by its President, Lia Butucel, and Mr. Stuart Hemphill, American educator in the English Language Fellow Program supported by the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, were honored to accept the invitation of Mr. Vasile Chiper, English teacher at the Liceul de Creativitate ศi Inventicฤ Prometeu-Protalent, to organize a public lesson on American culture and civilization. ๐บ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฉ
Students from the 8th, 9th, and 11th grades explored the cultural richness and diversity of the 50 states of the United States, engaging in dynamic discussions and interactive activities. The most active participants were recognized and awarded at the end of the session. ๐โจ
This event contributed to building meaningful bridges between Moldovan and American cultures, fostering intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding. ๐ค Mr. Hemphill was delighted to share personal insights about his home state, as well as engaging perspectives on other regions of the United States. We extend our sincere gratitude to the school administration for their warm hospitality and excellent cooperation, as well as to the U.S. Embassy in Moldova for its continuous support in promoting educational and cultural exchange initiatives.

๐ Human Rights in Education: Respect, Dignity, Dialogue
The campaign โHuman Rights in Education โ Respect, Dignity, Dialogueโ, organized by the American Studies Center in partnership with Moldova State University, AO Tinerii Acasฤ, Anglophone Department, Law Faculty and Peopleโs Advocate Office was successfully held on December 30 at Ion Luca Caragiale High School in Orhei.
Representatives of the American Studies Center โ Lia Butucel, Dorian Ciubotaru, Alina Butnaru, and Dragomir Negru โ engaged in a meaningful discussion with teachers, focusing on teachersโ rights, the legal framework, professional responsibilities, and the challenges faced in the educational environment.
A special contribution was made by Ms. Tamara Teniciuc, Head of the Childrenโs Rights Department within the Peopleโs Advocate Office, who delivered an insightful presentation on childrenโs rights and their protection.
