There are thousands of bomb shelters around Ukraine. Some were built after WW2, many were improvised since the conflict intensified in 2022.

In big cities, people run to them multiple times every day. They are basic, because nobody expected we would still be here four years later.

But what if all it took was a bucket of paint, a string of lights and a colorful poster to lighten up the most stressful hour of someone’s day.

Every summer, Katalyst organizes cooking camps for the next generation of "iron chefs", to develop confidence through basic kitchen skills, to get them off screens for a few hours while socializing with real people, and to fill their tummies with laughs and vitamins.

During school breaks, Katalyst organizes cooking workshops for teachers, to experiment with new ingredients, or adapt old recipes to be a little healthier.

In addition to cooking classes for kids, parents and cafeteria staff, we also organize field trips to farms and factories.

In this case, they got to see how a local cereal company makes their favorite crunchy little stars.

We would like to thank ChildFund Deutschland and Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) for improving rural school lunch programs.

Not only was equipment provided to reduce the workload of staff, but nutrition for about 1,500 kids was improved throughout 2025.

Because it's easier to focus on ABCs and 123s when little tummies are full.
