A phrasal verb is a combination of a verb + one or two small words (called particles, such as up, on, off, out, or into). Together, they create a meaning that is often different from the original verb.
Examples
Wake up = stop sleeping

Turn on = start a machine or device
Please turn on the TV.
Turn off = stop a machine or device
Turn off the lights before you leave.
Look after = take care of
