Short Story
The Lantern That Waited
On the edge of a quiet village stood an old lantern hanging from a wooden post. Every evening it lit the road for travelers. During the day, people walked by without noticing it.
One windy afternoon, a little sparrow landed on the lantern.
"Don't you get lonely?" the sparrow asked.
"Sometimes," the lantern replied. "But I know someone will need my light when darkness comes."
The sparrow did not understand. It flew away to play in the bright sunshine.
That night, a thick fog covered the village. A young girl returning home lost her way. She saw the lantern shining through the mist and followed its warm light until she reached her family safely.
The next morning, the sparrow returned.
"You were right," it said. "Your light mattered when no one expected it."
The lantern glowed softly.
"We don't always know when our kindness will help someone. We only need to keep shining."
Moral: Small acts of kindness can become someone's greatest hope.

A phrasal verb is a combination of a verb + one or two small words (called particles, such as up, on, off, out, or into). Together, they create a meaning that is often different from the original verb.
Examples
Wake up = stop sleeping
I wake up at 7:00 every morning.
Turn on = start a machine or device
Please turn on the TV.
Turn off = stop a machine or device
Turn off the lights before you leave.
Look after = take care of
She looks after her little brother.
Give up = stop trying or quit
Don't give up. Keep working hard!
Pick up = lift or collect
Please pick up the book.
