Lesson 2: Present simple related expressions.

With the present simple, we often use adverbs of frequency to say 'how often' we do something. There are many adverbs related to present simple, but I will mention some of them this time.
Here is a short list of common adverbs:

Always - usually - often- sometimes - rarely - never.

For example:
I usually wake up early.
She always wakes up late.

Use present simple for:

• Facts, or things that always happen.
The Earth turns around the Sun.
• Routines and habits.
The birds return to the island every spring.
• Timetable events.
The Drama Club meets every Thursday at 7.30.
• Plots of films, stories and plays.
At the party, Romeo sees Juliet and falls in Jove with her.

Affirmative
I/ You / We / They want, go, take
She/ He / It wants, goes, takes.

Negative:
I/ You / We / They do not (don’t)
She/ He / It does not (doesn't) want, go, take.


Question:
Does He/She/ It work?
Do I/ You / We / They work?

NB:
Most verbs add -s for third person she / he / it: want - wants
Verbs ending -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -o: add -es passes, washes, relaxes, washes, watches.
Verbs ending with consonant + y => cry + (i)es = cries. study= studies.

Question words:

• We put question words in front of present simple yes / no questions.
Why do people grow?
Where does water come from?
When do fish sleep?
What does this word mean?
Who do you sit next to?
How does a camera work?
