What I feel, hear and see on my retreats:
Suitcases overpacked.
Bringing 2 books, not opening one. Bringing 2 books, reading them all.
Wakening up because of hearing the birds chant so loud while performing their first morning songs.
Afternoon naps.
The sound of laughter of the students. The sound of laughter of the venue staff.
Relaxing and feeling pampered like a baby.
Walking barefoot on the grass.
The relief not to talk about work.
The parfum of mint and fleur d’oranger.
A phone switched off for the first time in months.
Journals opening and people start to write or paint.
People wanting more balance and achieving it after 2 days. People feeling stronger after 3 days.
Students feeling asleep while relaxing in Shavasana.
People going to bed before 10pm, sleeping deeply and more than 10 hours in the row.
Deeper and longer breaths.
Following the turtles on their tracks.
Someone meeting a version of themselves they had not seen yet.
Someone meeting a version of themselves they had not seen for long time.
Retreat students saying: “Oh my god, I did not realise how exhausted I was”, or “Finally I remember what quiet and peace feels like”.
Saying it feels so good letting go of who we portrait to be and finally being who we really are.
The relief of nowhere else to go or to run to.
The joy to being served breakfasts and dinners.
Sunrises and sunsets everyone admires.
People sitting still and watching the sky and the 360 degrees horizons.
More group photos than selfies.
Hughs and kisses before leaving.
People coming back for the second, third, fourth and fifth time.
People coming back with friends and family.
People saying: “I think I needed this more than I was aware of, I wish to have done this sooner.

You meet, and there is a natural connection.
You practice together. As a teacher, you find deep joy in guiding certain students.

Some of them begin to explore in their own yoga path, some discovering new approaches to a posture, and new ways of feeling and interpretating yoga.

You part with a simple: we will meet again.

Then, messages follow—
“How are you?”
“I would love to see you soon.”

Time passes, and the student reaches out again:
“How are you? I would love to come back.”

And the teacher responds with an open heart:
“Ah, that’s fantastic… just tell me when. I will make space for you and do my best to make you feel comfortable and welcome. It is such a pleasure to teach you.”

You meet again.
And somewhere along the way, something deepens, a connection that goes beyond teacher and student. Sometimes, it becomes a friendship for life.
And that is something truly special.
I feel grateful and genuinely excited each time a student returns..

Teach what is appropriate to each student.
Every individual has unique needs, shaped by their constitution, abilities, and aspirations.

True education is not uniform; it is responsive.
It observes before it instructs.
It sees and listens before it guides.

Some students need structure.
Some need freedom.
Some need encouragement.
Some need challenge.
Some need balance.
Some need strength.
Some need stillness, quiet and peace.

When teaching is adapted to the person rather than forcing the person to adapt to the teaching, learning becomes natural, joyful, and transformative.

To educate wisely is to recognize difference,
and to honor each student.

Only through acquiring regularity in practice will we experience the true benefits of yoga. For beginners, this is not easy. The poses are new. Learning yoga for the first time
is like a child learning to walk. We have to think about every step. It does not take long
before the steps we take become effortless. Once we have mastered the art,
we no longer pay attention to how we walk, and walking becomes natural. The
same happens to the martial artist who learns a technique perfectly and has no memory of
how he used it when attacked. These are known as states of no-mind, also called mushin by the Japanese.
They are comparable to the state of flow that artists achieve during a creative process.
Many refer to this same concept in many other ways, such as being in the moment,
present, focused, in motion, in rhythm, in tune, ignited, and centered.
When we detach ourselves from time, the environment, and the body, we are able to transcend ourselves
and enter a state of pure consciousness in which we are devoid of ego..

On our yoga retreats we create balance between the physical and spiritual aspects of yoga, but as well we give importance to the cuisine and the ambience.
