Why 'Ron's Gone Wrong' gets so much right 22/10/2021

I left Morocco 7 years ago and am now the grandfather to Adam, who is soon to be 2. The world he has to navigate is increasingly becoming one where growing up, where many of our social rules are governed and complicaed by Information Technology, seems problematic.
How will he cope?
Hopefully more skillfully than many of us do today.
I was reminded of this when taking a family on a guided walk yesterday in Cornwall to show them the sunset. The grandmother was half Moroccan and her father still lived in Rabat, although she taught French and Spanish in a British school. We had her one year old grandson with us too so I told the family about the release of this new film, five years in the making, which may address some of the issues our grandchildren face.
Best to all of you who still find articles on this page of interest.
I'm about to become 64 and many of the students who feature on this site will now be at University or perhaps already through it. A sobering thought but one which fills me with hope that they can be the change to guide us all into a brighter future together!

Childhood in the Digital Age - The Open University 05/02/2016

Revisiting this page a year and a half later (I left ASI and Morocco in June 2014) it is interesting that the number of likes it receives continues to grow with 10 new likes this week alone. I am currently in the UK and doing an Open University course on "Childhood in the Digital Age". You can join the course too (for free) if you are interested in digital education at www.futurelearn.com/courses/childhood-in-the-digital-age
We are in week 1 of a 4 week course and it comes highly recommended.

Childhood in the Digital Age - The Open University Delve into the lives of children and discuss the potential benefits and limitations of technology in their lives.

Computer, simulating a 13-year-old boy, becomes first to pass Turing test 09/06/2014

An appropriate and interesting way to end the school year. A computer could soon be doing your personal project for you and the teacher won't be able to tell the difference!

Your Project so far 12/05/2014

Please complete this form as soon as possible.

Your Project so far This form is to help you assess how you are doing so far on your project. You are halfway there already! Hopefully it will focus you on an updated plan and help you to give all the evidence required for a high grade this trimester.

Bulletin 3 is due tomorrow evening Weds 30th April (you can send it before that). Simply tell me what you have been doing. I suspect you should still be investigating your personal project still but you should be following your plan... so whatever that tells you. Remember that your weekly Bulletins will act as your "Process Journal" and provide important information about all the stages of your Project (investigation, Design, Plan, Create, Evaluate). If you do not send me your Bulletins by the deadlines they go into the RED. Make sure you have the discipline to make all these deadlines and keep your personal project on track!

PLEASE Help me, Help you!
Let's keep your project on track. Bulletins are there to tell me how things are going for you but if you need help, ASK!
Nobody plans to fail, but some students fail to follow a plan or ask for help in time.
Don't be one of them!

Grades 7-11 have the opportunity to do a personal IT project over the next two months. Think about what you would like to do and then send me your ideas by email. Later you will need to be quite specific about it but over the next week there is no rush to commit to anything until you have fully discussed it with me! The document linked below will help you pick an IT area that really interests YOU!

Become a Photojournalist of the Milky Way! - NASA Spitzer Space Telescope Over the years, NASA has released a lot of beautiful space images. Sometimes they're even given cute names based on what they look like, such as a black widow spider, a rose, or a snake. Have you ever looked at them and wished you could find & capture your own unique photos from space?

Making sense of data! Can you make sense of the information in this word processed document by putting it into a spreadsheet? By doing so you should be able to make some informed statements about what students at ASI thought about the news reports from BBC News School Report day.
