English Teaching Internship Initiative - ETII Fez

The English Teaching Internship Initiative (ETII) began as an offshoot of the ALC’s Community Service Club (CSC) in 2015.

ALC volunteers were giving weekly English classes to students at a handicrafts center in Fez. However, with too many students and too few volunteers, the ALC’s CSC couldn’t keep up. Hence the idea was hatched to meet this need by bringing in Moroccan English Master’s students from Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University (SMBAU) to supplement the work of the ALC volunteers. This proved to be a win-win

for everyone involved: 60 handicraft students were assured free weekly English lessons, and 4 Master’s students (many hoping to be English teachers one day) benefited from this unique professional development experience. Now, thanks to a generous grant from the US State Department, the ETII is able to build on its success by expanding the scope of its mission to train 30 English Master’s and PhD students to reach a targeted 400 beneficiaries around Fez. Thanks to an official partnership with the the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdullah University (SMBAU), the ETII is assured the full support of the higher education leadership in Fez. Furthermore, the ALC Fez has graciously offered its financial, logistical, and pedagogical backing to the ETII. Lastly, in order to reach disadvantaged students across Fez, the ETII has partnered with diverse Moroccan ministries, associations, and schools with the aim of expanding English language education in Fes.

The English Teaching Internship Initiative (ETII Fes) is currently seeking new teacher trainees who hold a BA in English Studies (also accepting a limited number of graduates with 2 years of university- DEUG) to join our teaching training program.
The program requires:
Excellent spoken and written English
BA in English from a Moroccan University
Little to no training in teaching
Can commit to the full academic year

Applications for the 2024/2025 program open now! Deadline September 15.
The ETII is a nonprofit teacher training program for graduates of Moroccan Public University English programs, funded by the American Cultural Association and American Language Centers. In semester one, you get theoretical teacher training based on the Cambridge TKT curriculum, plus micro teaching sessions and lesson planning practice. In semester two, you commit to an internship where you will teach in-need students English for either 40, 70, or 100 hours.
