The verb ' have' in the present.

This is the way we conjugate the verb have in the present.

I have something to do this evening.
You have something to do this evening.
She has something to do this evening.
He has something to do this evening.
It has to do with that problem.
They have something to do this evening.
We have something to do this weekend.

The Present Simple.

We say : I work.
You work
She works
He works(we add 's' to the main verb)
It works( we add 's' to the main verb)

The present Simple.

We use the present simple to talk about things in general. We use it to dicuss things which happen all the time or repeatedly. We aslo use for things that are true.

Ex : He likes Italian food.

Ex : He usually gets up late.

Ex : They love spaghetti.

Ex : We open at 8:30 in the morning.

Ex : The cafe opens at 6:30 in the morning.

The present simple.

We use the present simple when we want to talk about someone's job.

Ex : Jack is a bus driver. ( explanation : karim works as a bus driver. This is something he does on a regular basis. We always use the present simple in such cases.

We use the present continuous to talk about an action that is not happening at the moment of speaking.

Ex : I'm reading a really good novel at the moment.

( Notice here we have a clue which is " at the moment " ,and that particular clue helps us to know that we are talking about the present. Our role now is to understand that we are talking about an unfinished action which normally takes some time. We already know that the present continuous is linked with a duration or a period of time around the present. Therefore, we use the present continuous to Express an action that still in progress. Whenever you see " at the moment " ,use the present continuous and not the present simple.

Using the Present Continuous with Today, this week or this year.

We use the present Continuous with those terms to refer to periods around now.

Ex ( conversation between Adam and Rahma)

Adam : You're studying hard today.

Rahma : Yes, I have a lot to do.

The term " Today " refers to the present. The action of studying is usually long not short. You cannot say " You study hard today". This is wrong, as the action of studying is linked to a long period of time during a day. Notice here we have the subject " you". We use 'are' as an auxiliary and not " is". It's something I already explained and you have the material that explains that.
