Continuing our speaker introductions for DOC × OptoMeeting 2026, I’m pleased to introduce our final speaker joining us in Riga this summer.
Finally — Dr Valeria Rodríguez-Fajardo
Dr Rodríguez-Fajardo is a lecturer at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, specialising in structured light in both classical and quantum optics. Her work spans a wide range of areas, including holography, plasmonics, optical trapping, metrology, and imaging.
She holds a Master’s degree in Optics from INAOE (Mexico) and a PhD in Photonics from ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences (Spain). She further developed her expertise during postdoctoral research at the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) and Colgate University (USA).
Her current research focuses on polarization optics, optical metrology, and quantum imaging, contributing to advancing both fundamental science and emerging optical technologies.

Continuing our speaker introductions for DOC × OptoMeeting 2026, I’m pleased to introduce another expert joining us in Riga this summer.
Next up — Dr Shadab Dabagh
Dr Dabagh is a nanomaterials researcher and biosensor specialist with a PhD in Nanomaterials from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Her work combines expertise in microfluidic chip design, optical sensing technologies, and advanced nanostructured materials.
Her research bridges fundamental materials science with practical industrial and biomedical applications, with a strong focus on translating innovation into real-world solutions.
Currently, Dr Dabagh is developing next-generation diagnostic and analytical platforms based on biosensor-integrated technologies at the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia.

Continuing our speaker introductions for DOC × OptoMeeting 2026, I’m delighted to introduce another inspiring speaker joining us in Riga this summer.
Next up — Dr Jasleen Kaur Jolly
Dr Jolly is an Associate Professor specialising in multidisciplinary vision research, bringing together optometry, ophthalmology, neuroscience, and psychology. Her work focuses on three key areas: outcome measures in novel therapeutics, the neuroscience of low vision (including Charles Bonnet Syndrome), and the psychological impact of visual impairment.
She has published 94 papers and 2 book chapters, and following a clinical doctoral fellowship in clinical neuroscience at the University of Oxford, she has established herself as an independent academic and consultant. Through Jolly Vision Science, she contributes to clinical trials worldwide and also holds an honorary associate professorship at the University of Melbourne.

Meet Dr David Rogers — an expert in semiconductor technologies and applied physics ⚙️
Dr Rogers received his PhD in Physics from the University of Glasgow and has worked at leading research institutions including Philips Research Laboratories, Carnegie Mellon University, and Nippon Telegraph & Telephone.
In 2001, he co-founded Nanovation, a fabrication facility focused on innovative oxide semiconductor technologies.
He is the author and co-author of over 30 patents and more than 150 publications, and is a frequent invited speaker at international conferences. Dr Rogers is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney.

Meet Dr Benjamin Cromey — a leading expert in optical engineering and space science 🚀
Dr Cromey is a Principal Optical Engineer at BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems, with a PhD in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona. His work has contributed to major NASA missions, including the Roman Space Telescope Wide Field Instrument, and ongoing efforts toward the Habitable Worlds Observatory.
As a 2023 Optica Ambassador, he actively promotes the field of optics worldwide, supporting education, outreach, and professional development within the scientific community.
Beyond his technical achievements, Dr Cromey is deeply involved in organisations such as SPIE and the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, and is passionate about inspiring the next generation of scientists.
