📍 RSU hosts First Baltic Emergency Medicine Congress
On 26–27 May, Rīga Stradiņš University hosted the First Baltic Emergency Medicine Congress, gathering around 1,200 healthcare professionals from the Baltic States and beyond.
Over the two days, the congress served as a major regional platform for knowledge exchange, professional growth and cross-border collaboration in emergency medicine.
💬 “The idea for the congress first emerged when we realised that emergency medicine professionals in the Baltic region did not even know each other – it became clear that we needed a shared platform for collaboration,” emphasises Rafaels Ciekurs, the author of the congress concept.
The programme featured:
• SimCup clinical simulation competition
• Show Your Research student abstract competition
• International expert discussions and scientific research presentations
🏆 Teams from Estonia and Latvia won the SimCup competition, demonstrating the high level of professional preparedness in the Baltics.
🏆 Kristers Āboliņš won first place in the "Show Your Research" student abstract competition with his study "The Sepsis Imposter: Secondary Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis in a Critically Ill Pediatric Patient".
The congress highlighted key industry challenges – human resource shortages, increasing patient flows and the need to strengthen system resilience in crisis situations.
🌍 The next Baltic Emergency Medicine Congress is scheduled to take place in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2028.
