🌍 From Riga to Oslo – discovering a new way of learning
When Aleksandra Atorina, a Law and Business student at RGSL, went on her Erasmus+ exchange to the University of Oslo, she discovered a completely different approach to studying
Not just a new country, but a new mindset.
“Studying in groups became one of the most valuable parts of my experience — it helped me see different perspectives and stay motivated.”
At the University of Oslo, longer courses allowed for deeper understanding, while student associations and extra activities made it possible to connect theory with real-life experience.
But Erasmus+ is not only about academics.
It’s about new friendships, new hobbies, and trying things you never had the chance to do before.
🌱 “I learned that it’s okay to meet many people, but truly value the connections that matter most.”
Aleksandra’s advice is simple — ask questions, stay curious, and get involved. That’s where the real experience begins.
🚀 This is what RGSL offers — the opportunity to study abroad, grow, and discover new possibilities.

RGSL Students Reach the TOP 8 at the Sports Arbitration Moot in Madrid!
We are proud to celebrate the achievements of the first-ever Riga Graduate School of Law Sports Arbitration Moot Court Team representing Riga Graduate School of Law at the 5th edition of the Sports Arbitration Moot in Madrid.
The team, composed of Kristaps Kārlis Naglis, a second-year LL.B. Law and Diplomacy student, and Miane Le Roux, a first-year LL.M. Law and Finance student, advanced to the elimination rounds and secured a place in the TOP 16 among 76 teams worldwide.
Since the team’s formation in November 2025, countless hours were dedicated to researching sports manipulation, compliance issues, and evidentiary submissions in preparation for the preliminary online rounds held in March.
This achievement would not have been possible without the invaluable guidance of Ayaan Shehryar and the supervision of Prof. Aleksandrs Fillers. We are grateful to RGSL for supporting students in developing advocacy skills within the dynamic and growing field of sports law.
As the team reflects on this journey:
“Nothing good is ever going to happen unless you have the heart and the courage to take the chances!”
Get your game on! ⚖️🏆

We are proud to share that our expert in data protection and administrative law Dr. Aleksandrs Potaičuks, Associate Professor at Riga Graduate School of Law, has published a new academic article in Poland as part of the European Network on Digitalisation and E-Governance (ENDE), currently led by Tallinn University of Technology.
By conducting research at the intersection of EU law, administrative law, constitutional law, and data protection, Dr. Aleksandrs Potaičuks continues to contribute to important discussions on law, human rights and digitalisation in Europe.
The publication, “Commercial Registers as Administrative Databases: Balancing Public Accessibility and Privacy”, explores how commercial registers in Europe balance public access to information with individuals’ rights to privacy and data protection in the digital age. The article also analyses the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union and highlights key lessons for protecting privacy while maintaining transparency in public databases.

🌍 From Riga to Malta – a challenge that shapes you
When Dana Ļaksa, a Law and Diplomacy student at RGSL, went on her Erasmus+ exchange to the University of Malta, she stepped into a very different academic environment
Not just a new place, but a new level of responsibility.
✨ “Studying in Malta meant a strong focus on independent work — no mid-term assessments, just full responsibility for final assignments.”
Writing, research, and discipline became central to her studies. Each assignment required time, focus, and persistence.
🌱 “This experience strengthened my discipline, time management, and work ethic.”
But Erasmus+ is more than academics.
It’s about living in an international environment — meeting people from all over the world, discovering new cultures, and gaining new perspectives.
🌍 “I really valued being surrounded by such a diverse and international community.”
Dana’s advice is to be honest with yourself about living abroad, stay open to new experiences, and plan ahead — especially when it comes to housing and budgeting.
🚀 This is what RGSL offers — the opportunity to challenge yourself, grow, and gain an international perspective.

We are proud to highlight the continued scholarly impact of our faculty at RGSL.
In the autumn of 2026, RGSL Associate Professor Dr. Fillers published an article, “Who Is Afraid of Choice-of-Court Agreements in Domestic Cases? The Inkreal Case and Beyond”, in the Netherlands International Law Review.
The article examines the Inkreal case, in which the Court of Justice of the European Union confirmed that even purely domestic disputes may fall under the Brussels Ibis Regulation if parties choose the courts of another Member State. While the decision strengthens party autonomy, it also raises important questions about the limits of national jurisdiction.
Dr. Fillers’ analysis highlights the broader implications of this judgment for European private international law and reflects the academic excellence at RGSL.
