Riga is Turning Pink (and Red, and Yellow!)
If you’ve walked past a flower shop in Riga today, you might have noticed they look a bit like they’ve been "invaded" by a colorful army of tulips. Don’t panic—it’s just March 8th preparations!🌷
In this part of the world, the tulip is the undisputed king of the week. In fact, if you see a man running down Brīvības street on Sunday looking slightly stressed, he is likely on a quest to find the perfect bouquet😃.

To all the wonderful women in our community—our brilliant students, dedicated teachers, and friends—we wish you a day filled with as much inspiration as a classic poem and as much joy as finally mastering Russian verbs!

Would you like to speak Russian like a pro?
Idioms and metaphors in the Russian language are those very "gems" that make speech lively and expressive, though they sometimes leave foreigners feeling stumped. They cannot be translated literally because their meaning is rooted in history and culture. Below, we are sharing 3 of the most popular study-related metaphors to enrich your Russian vocabulary.
✅1. Грызть гранит науки
Literal translation: To gnaw/bite the granite of science.
English equivalent: To hit the books / To grind.
👉Meaning: This describes the hard, intense work of studying. It suggests that knowledge is a tough material, and you need persistence to master it.
✅2. Схватывать на лету
Literal translation: To catch (something) while in flight.
English equivalent: To grasp something instantly / To be quick on the uptake.
👉Meaning: When a student understands a new concept immediately without needing a long explanation.
✅3. Пробелы в знаниях
Literal translation: Gaps in knowledge.
English equivalent: Knowledge gaps / Missing links.
👉Meaning: Those "empty spots" in your education where you missed a topic or didn't quite understand a foundation, making it harder to learn more advanced material later.
Which metaphor is new for you?😉 Or maybe you can share some more?

Celebrating Freedom: November 18 - A Day to Remember!🇱🇻
The National Independence Day of Latvia (November 18th) is a big day! Think of it as the country's most important birthday. It's the day way back in 1918 when Latvia proudly announced it was a free, independent country.
This holiday is all about national pride and remembering the journey to freedom. People reflect on the past struggles and feel genuinely happy to have their own country. It's a day to honor that hard-won liberty and ensure this incredible legacy is passed down. Essentially, it's the biggest annual reminder of how valuable and special a free Latvia truly is! 🫶
Some facts:
1. Date of Proclamation: Latvia officially declared its independence on November 18, 1918, following the end of World War I.
2. Location of Proclamation: The historic proclamation took place in Rīga at the building that is now the Latvian National Theatre.
3. Freedom Monument Focus: Throughout the day, people gather at the Freedom Monument to lay flowers and observe the changing of the guard, symbolizing the nation's liberty.

Forget everything you think you know about studying abroad, because Raphael, a student from sunny Florida, just redefined the experience! 🥳
Raph signed up for 12-week Russian course in Riga and quickly discovered two things: he was a little rusty, and Riga was an affordable student paradise. While the "fully Russian in Russian" method initially pushed him out of his comfort zone, it quickly resulted in a "tremendous" improvement in his speaking skills.
