Hello all, my name is Ross, I'm from the UK and I'm currently taking the Standard Russian Language Course here at BORN, Riga. I study Russian as part of my university degree; however, my interest in the subject goes far beyond the university classroom, and I have long been fascinated by Russian culture and history, alongside the culture and history of other Russian-speaking and Russian-influenced places. My experience with Russian has taken me all across the former Soviet Union, from the Aral Sea to the Tien Shan mountains, and of course to Riga — a city I've come to enjoy immensely.

Midsummer Holidays in Latvia (June 23-24) 🌿🔥

Learning Russian has no age limit! 🌍📚

Our motivated students ranged from just 16 years old to over 70, creating a truly diverse international learning community.

The largest student groups at BORN language school in 2025 were:

✨ Ages 26–30 – 21.19%
✨ Ages 31–40 – 21.19%
✨ Ages 21–25 – 17.88%

Together, these age groups represented over 60% of all international students, showing strong interest both from young professionals and adult learners looking to improve their Russian and gain international experience. At the same time, BORN school delighted to welcome many students aged 60+ and 70+, we also had enthusiastic 16-17 year-old students, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to our classes proving that language learning is for everyone.

Having a wide range of ages in one group enriches the learning experience, bringing together different perspectives, life experiences, cultures and fun. And in Riga—a safe, welcoming, and easy-to-navigate city—students of all ages can feel comfortable exploring, learning, and making new connections.

Riga is Turning Pink (and Red, and Yellow!)

If you’ve walked past a flower shop in Riga today, you might have noticed they look a bit like they’ve been "invaded" by a colorful army of tulips. Don’t panic—it’s just March 8th preparations!🌷

In this part of the world, the tulip is the undisputed king of the week. In fact, if you see a man running down Brīvības street on Sunday looking slightly stressed, he is likely on a quest to find the perfect bouquet😃.
