Krakow, Riga, Warsaw, and Bucharest – four cities taking part in the "unLoc" project – share a history marked by totalitarian regimes that have shaped their architecture and continue to influence how we perceive them today. During a two-year research process, we examined examples of contested postwar architecture across the countries of the former Eastern Bloc.

The symposium was concluding event and gathering of artists, designers, architects, and researchers from various countries to present, discuss and reflect on how architecture of power shapes our cities.

___Rethinking the Architecture of Power
Art at the edge of human–machine collaboration
Exhibition and Symposium | Art Academy of Latvia, Riga | November 5, 2025___

The exhibition and symposium invite audiences to explore how architecture, memory, and new technologies shape our understanding of the past and future. As part of the international project unLoc, the event brings together researchers, artists, and designers from Riga, Kraków, Warsaw, and Bucharest.

Focusing on post-war architecture and its complex histories, the project examines how spaces once linked to authority can be reimagined through art and AI-based creative research.

The symposium will take place on Nov 5 (Kronvalda blv 4, aud 2, 14.00), followed by the exhibition opening at the Art Academy of Latvia main building (Kalpaka blv 13, 18.30), open to visitors until November 28.

LMDA aicina uz projekta unLoc noslēguma simpoziju un izstādes atklāšanu Latvijas Mākslas akadēmijā 2025. gada 5. novembrī

Pasākums ir daļa no starptautiska projekta, kas apvienoja pētniekus, māksliniekus un dizainerus no Rīgas, Krakovas, Varšavas un Bukarestes.

Projekts unLoc divu gadu garumā pievērsās pēckara arhitektūrai, tās kompleksajai vēsturei un neviennozīmīgajai uztverei mūsdienās, pētot, kā telpas, kas reiz saistītas ar varu un ideoloģiju, var tikt interpretētas no jauna, iesaistot mākslu, radošumu un tehnoloģijas.

Simpozijs notiks 5. novembrī Kronvalda bulvārī 4 (aud. 2, 14.00), kam sekos izstādes atklāšana Latvijas Mākslas akadēmijas galvenajā ēkā 18.30. Izstāde būs apskatāma līdz 28. novembrim.
