This summer was a busy one ☀

"The seventh FestivaL’and international summer school on temporary architecture and spatial design took place in Valmiera, organised by the Institute of Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture (LMDA) at the Art Academy of Latvia in collaboration with Valmieras Gaujas Krasta Secondary School–Development Centre and the Faculty of Architecture and Design at RISEBA University. In just under a week, the summer school participants built an accessible outdoor classroom, constructed from timber, which will enable pupils at Gaujas Krasta Secondary School to hold lessons and other activities in the fresh air." LMDA researchers Sebastian Muehl and Mara Traumane delved deep into the controversies surrounding the RIBOCA Riga Biennial of Contemporary Art, putting into perspective issues of boycott, cancellation and criticism of funding structures in the art world. Their article is included in the Routledge Companion to Art Biennials, edited by Panos Kompatsiaris, which gives an overview on major trends and issues in Art Biennials during the past decades.
