Tips for new toastmasters, courtesy of Bill Brown, DTM - in the latest issue of the Toastmaster magazine:
1. Getting to CC (the competent communicator award) is not a race.
2. Map out your speech topics early (and choose them to fit your project).
3. Use your mentors (they're only too happy to help).

Next session will handle Table Topics. You know why that is... soon, you will be confronted with a Table topics master AND contestants at club, Area, Division AND District levels! Now is the time to enrol for the next How to session! The conditions are the same as before! Join the fun and learn from each other, the best and the rest of them!

Thank you Mohammed Qahtani for your inspirational workshop.
We learned a lot and were entertained by Robert van der Meer, who very efficiently signalled the negativity in your message, as instructed.

"Yes you can"
What are we afraid of?
Indeed, negative messages are very harmful for out self-esteem.
Capitalise on your talents.
Ask for help.
Don't merely exist. Live!
Have big dreams, start step-by-step.
Manage a bucket list!

Thank you Mohammed Qahtani for your eye opener.

Calls for actions from Mohammed Qahtani’s Keynote:

1) Your status: The glass is half empty. Choose rather what you always wanted to do. We are missing out a lot of things in our lives.
2) Focus: When something happens to us, or something fails, there is always something we can do about it-
3) Meaning: Choosing a higher aim.
And knowing clearly why we want achieve this aim.
4) Relationships: We cannot achieve a dream alone.
Always ask for help. Everybody has a strength.
Capitalise on that.
5) Strategy: Do not think big like big companies. Do small changes, step-by-step.
Example: American Airlines served less one olive per salad in first class and saved the company.

Why were you at District Conference?
To meet other Toastmasters; to participate in contests; to progress.
Is this what you want? A piece of glass (trophy)?
Aim higher!
Name the target your aim to achieve.
Examples: Speak to 1000 people.
Keep doing it until you reach the championship.
Mohammed saw 2500 Toastmasters in the audience (check out how he looked over and was beaming.)
He made. And if he wins?
At the end, just a piece of glass.
What is your next aim?

Success can get into one's head.
An old lady that came at the end to Mohammed and, in tears, thanked him for making her a better person.
It was not about the trophy. Mohammed wants to make the world a better place.

Summing up the Keynote:
Do something, not for a title. Think of what you can give back
Act with a purpose, make sure you know why you are doing it.

(Thank you Mohammed, we certainly clapped for your Keynote.)

Wouldn't you prefer to have Swiss chocolate in loco?
Well, who of you does not like chocolate?
Say it now or forever hold your peace.
