Did you know? Each individual caterpillar of the oak processionary caterpillar is peppered with about half a million (😳) poisonous stinging hairs. These can break easily and are carried by the wind over great distances. This means that humans and animals are not only endangered in the immediate vicinity of the nests. The stinging hairs contain thaumetopoein. This is a nettle poison and the reason for the characteristic oak processionary caterpillar rash. 🐛
Have you made any experiences with it yet and what are your hacks against the itch? 🥴

It’s Forest fact Friday! And it’s toadstool season! Did you know that why the toadstool, of all things, has become a lucky charm cannot be said exactly? If you believe mushroom connoisseurs, the mere sighting of a toadstool is a stroke of luck, because tasty mushrooms such as boletus, birch mushroom and red cap often grow in its vicinity. 🍄 What is your Lucky charm? 🍀
