I believe that experiences are the best way to learn about writing. I can teach a kid about form and technique but I cannot teach a kid about the smell of cedar. I cannot articulate the aversion I have to the smell of soy milk because of a memory it evokes. I cannot explain the fear that comes with having your hood up on an empty street and no peripheral vision.
Classes can only work if a kid is constantly fed experiences, regardless of how meaningless they may seem.
Better still, don't send your kid for a class but spend that time communicating with them about how they feel.

I'm conducting a limited number of holiday classes for those who are interested. My intention as a creative writing teacher is to have as few classes with your child as possible; the intention should always be to teach your children enough to be independent learners, and that's what the focus of these classes will be.
P3 (2023) HOLIDAY CLASS on:
1. Tuesday, 22 / 11, 1100 - 1300
2. Wednesday, 23 / 11. 1100 - 1300
3. Tuesday, 29/11. 1100 - 1300
4. Wednesday, 30/11, 1100 - 1300
I will be teaching until the 19th of December this year so do contact me for classes, if you're interested.
If you need help prepping your child for the DSA exercise, this can be arranged too.

The Antagonist has a primary want that opposes the Protagonist's want.
The shark in Jaws wants to have breakfast while Chrissy wants to go swimming. The shark cannot have breakfast if Chrissy manages to go swimming and vice versa.
The Antagonist may take the form of a tornado, a mean girl in school or exist within the Protagonist.
Marlin wants to protect Nemo but he needs to let Nemo go.
How would you ensure that your Antagonist is viable?

Would someone ever leave a good job that they love?
Why would you ever leave a good job which you love?
I get this question a lot, ever since my decision to leave UWCEast in February this year. I am sure it had been floating around in my wife's mind too, but she did not ask me because, somewhere in our 12 years of marriage, she has accepted that I am different. At that point, she too had decided to le...

I am leaving my job at United World College, SEA, after seven wonderful years and I have decided to pursue teaching on my own again, with my little creative writing school that I started in 2015. The difference is that teaching creative writing will be my full-time job.
I'll begin classes in July 2022 on weekdays between 3pm - 5pm and 5pm - 7pm. The level of each class will depend on interest, so if you are interested, please drop me a WhatsApp or email me at [email protected].
