This week, the Scienteens Lab's team is at the Ecsite Conference taking place at the Universeum in Sweden. The event gathers over 900 science engagement professionals working in science centres and museums, universities and more. 🤩

At the end of April, 65 Belgian students from the GO Atheneum De Ring visited the Scienteens Lab to take part in biology, computer science and physics workshops!

🧫🔬 26 students joined our biology team to learn more about the biomedical background of cancer. They observed human cancer cells in the lab, tested their viability and tried their hand at RNA extraction and quantification.

🔋☀️ Another group participated in our "I’ve got the power" physics workshop focusing on power management, efficiency and energy storage. They powered a small turbine with water, raced electric cars to compare different powering methods and played a board game about energy supply & demand.

💻🧠 26 participants explored generative artificial intelligence (AI) and what is behind programmes like ChatGPT, DeepL & Co. They discover how these programmes encode the meaning of words, connect them with each other and learn the nuances of human language. They also learned that these “AI brains” need a lot of energy to function and they are not perfect.

This week, 7 researchers from all over Europe participated in our three-day outreach training programme for international scientists working in photovoltaics labs. 🌍☀️🔋

Organised in collaboration with the ReNew-PV COST network, this workshop teaches participants how to effectively communicate about their research. With the help of experienced science communicators, they work in small groups to develop didactic material and hands-on activities to engage with the public.

This afternoon, they presented their work to a class of high‑school students from the European School 1.
