📦 How can digital tools strengthen chemical traceability in the textile sector?

As the textile industry moves towards greater transparency and circularity, digital innovation has a key role to play. Through the Interreg ECHT project, the LMDDC is helping SMEs prepare for the future implementation of the Digital Product Passport and improve the traceability of chemicals throughout the textile value chain.

As part of the project, our colleague Claire Lombard is leading the LMDDC's contribution, which includes:
🔹 The development of the ECHT Knowledge Platform, together with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology - LIST and the other partners of the project, bringing together practical guidance, scientific resources, and regulatory information for SMEs.
🔹 An open-source, multilingual AI assistant, based on our [AI]lice technology, that helps users quickly find reliable information while always citing its sources, protecting users' privacy, and avoiding AI hallucinations.

ECHT is a great example of how trustworthy AI, open-source technologies, and European collaboration can help businesses go beyond compliance and embrace a more sustainable, circular textile industry.

🚀 Can open AI image generation rival proprietary models?

With the growing importance of digital sovereignty, many organisations are looking for AI solutions that offer greater control over their data and infrastructure. But how do self-hosted open models actually compare to proprietary alternatives?

Our latest article explores the performance of several FLUX image-generation models, all tested on local infrastructure to evaluate the trade-offs between quality, speed, and resource efficiency.

From logo creation to event visuals and movie posters, we put these models through a series of challenging real world scenarios including generating readable French text inside images to see where each one excels... and where the compromises begin.

At LMDDC, we believe that understanding the capabilities and limitations of open AI is essential for organisations seeking more sovereign and transparent AI solutions.

🚀Summer bootcamp on entrepreneurship in the scope of Empow'Her Global

This week, the Luxembourg Media & Digital Design Centre (LMDDC) was delighted to host the first day of Future Makers, a programme organised by WIDE ANDCO that gives young people aged 16–21 the opportunity to explore entrepreneurship through immersive, hands-on experiences.

Over the course of the programme, participants took part in a VR business simulation, tackled team challenges, developed innovative ideas, and prepared to pitch their projects to a jury. 💡

As the Luxembourg Media & Digital Design Centre (LMDDC), we are proud to provide spaces that support learning, collaboration, and innovation. Welcoming initiatives like Future Makers reflects our commitment to education, skills development, and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Our facilities are designed to host collaborative projects, training sessions, and events that inspire creativity, knowledge sharing, and innovation.

👕 Can the textile industry become truly circular?

The textile industry has been one of the largest contributors to resource consumption and waste over the past decades. Today, the transition to circularity is no longer optional-it's essential.
This is where TRUSTex, a Horizon Europe project, comes in. By combining Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) with digital traceability solutions, TRUSTex is helping accelerate the shift towards more circular business models across the textile value chain.

At LMDDC, we are proud to contribute to this initiative by developing a capacity-building programme designed for SMEs, municipalities, and policymakers, equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to support this transition.

Together, we are working towards a more transparent, responsible, and circular textile ecosystem.

📊 How can education systems harness data and AI responsibly?

Earlier this month, our colleagues Pierre de La Celle and Jimmy Fischer represented the LMDDC at the France Éducation international International Conference, co-organized with IIEP-UNESCO, where experts from across Europe explored a key question: How can data literacy support better, more ethical education in the age of generative AI?

During the conference, they showcased two LMDDC initiatives:
🔹 skilltech.tools, our sovereign, open-source digital toolkit designed for educators.
🔹 Polyphonia, an AI-powered solution that transforms multilingual qualitative feedback into meaningful insights while preserving participants' authentic voices.

Beyond the presentations, the discussions highlighted the importance of ethical AI, data governance, digital sovereignty, and the need to rethink how AI can truly support teaching and learning.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Marco BARNIG to one of our workshops for an interview about his vision of artificial intelligence and KI Léierbud.

A well-known figure in Luxembourg's tech ecosystem, Marco has long championed a simple yet essential idea: making AI accessible to everyone.

Through KI Léierbud, he created an open platform where anyone, from young learners to seniors, can understand how AI works, test their knowledge, and experiment with real AI tools, with no technical background required.

This interview perfectly reflects his commitment to sharing knowledge, demystifying AI, and making these technologies accessible to all.

🤝 How do we build a workplace where everyone feels respected, included, and empowered to contribute?

As part of our Gender Equality Plan, the LMDDC team recently took part in a workshop led by One People -ASBL, represented by Madeleine YOUGYE and Moses Okutachi, on the topic of Discrimination and Racism in the Workplace.

The session provided an opportunity to explore the historical roots of discrimination, better understand how bias and microaggressions can manifest in multilingual and multicultural environments, and discuss practical approaches to inclusive communication.

🎯 These discussions directly support the objectives of our Gender Equality Plan by strengthening awareness, fostering a greater sense of belonging, and promoting a workplace culture based on respect, diversity, and equal opportunities.
