Consistency doesn’t mean following the perfect study plan.

It means looking at your real life—your busy weeks, unpredictable mornings and changing energy—and noticing where English can still fit.

That Tuesday morning when you only had 10 minutes?

It counted.

The problem is that many adults dismiss those 10 minutes because they couldn’t sit down with a grammar book, write vocabulary lists or complete a “proper” lesson.

So they wait for an hour.

And that hour rarely comes.

I loved .languages reminder that language learning has to work alongside your life, not compete with it. I’m her big fan.

A lesson can introduce new language, correct mistakes and build confidence.

But your brain needs repeated contact to store that language properly.

When you speak, recall words and create sentences regularly, retrieving English becomes easier.

When you only reread notes, everything may feel familiar, but familiarity is not the same as being able to speak.

Stop asking:
“How long should I study?”

Start asking:
“How often will I make my brain retrieve English?”

Five or ten minutes matter! Disappearing for three weeks does not.

Summer is here and though El Niño is causing really high temperatures in most of southern Europe, Central America and Asia we have had quite a mild or even chilly summer in the Baltics. It makes you forget to apply sunscreen or sunblock with SPF when you get exposed to sun and then your skin can get bad sunburns. Those are the worst for me, especially because I have spotty skin with moles. So I applied plenty today but I’m also not planning to walk for more than an hour in this scorching heat.

5 ways to make sure your child forgets English completely this summer:

1️⃣Tell them: “We’ll start again in September.”
Because obviously, the brain loves a 3-month holiday with no language contact.
2️⃣Buy one huge grammar book.
Then place it on the table like a threat.
3️⃣Say: “Read this English text.”
No game. No pictures. No context. Just vibes and suffering.
4️⃣Correct every tiny mistake immediately.
Very relaxing. Very confidence-building. Very “please never speak again.”
5️⃣Wait until your child hates English…
and then look for a teacher.

Or, a wild idea:

This summer, give your child 5 minutes of English a day.

One picture.
One word.
One silly sentence.
One song.
One small win.

Because children don’t need a perfect summer English plan.

They need their English to stay alive.
