The soup that has always been connecting all people 🍵❤️All of you know our famous cold beetroot soup, but do you know when it appeared, what colour it was and what we used to call it? If you are not sure, then keep reading!✨🙏

🍵Our famous Šaltibarščiai has been existing for several centuries but the first recipes appeared only at the end of the 18th century.

🍵Interestingly, the warm beetroot soup was the inspiration for its cold version. The karštibarščiai dates back even before the start of the Lithuanian state.

🍵According to the source, the Lithuanian name Šaltibarščiai was mentioned for the first time by Liudvika Didžiulienė-Žmona at the end of the 19th century in her book on gastronomy. Previously the Polish word “chłodnik” was used to describe the cold beetroot soup.

🍵By the way, Šaltibarščiai used to be of a different colour, usually the white one. Growing beetroots was partially the thing of status which meant that people with less money were usually growing the white beetroot, therefore, the soup wasn’t of that bright pink colour.

And what do you think about Šaltibarščiai? Do you eat it often? Is it delicious for you?☺️

Eyes are the mirror of the soul… I bet you heard this expression before. But what about the idioms with the word ‘eye’?🤔

In Lithuanian, we have plenty of idioms with the word ‘eye’ but for today I picked three that we use quite frequently😇

👁Per akis
🇬🇧A lot
🇷🇺Очень много

👁Akis į akį
🇬🇧Face-to-face (just two people without others listening)
🇷🇺С глазу на глаз

👁Akys atsivėrė
🇬🇧Opened my eyes
🇷🇺Раскрылись глаза

Swipe and check the example sentences✨

And which idiom including the word ‘eye’ do you use the most?

Lietuviški juokeliai 😅

🇬🇧 At school.
The teacher asks children - who is smarter - a dog or a human?
Silence. Petriukas is answering:
- I think it's a dog.
-Why? - the teacher asks.
-Because when I tell various stories to my puppy he understands me perfectly but when he wants to tell me something I don't understand anything.

🇷🇺 В школе. Воспитатель спрашивает детей - кто умнее - собака или человек?
Тишина. Петрюкас отвечает:
-Я думаю, что это собака.
-Почему? — спрашивает учитель. -Потому что, когда я рассказываю своему щенку разные истории, он меня прекрасно понимает, а когда он хочет мне что-то рассказать, я ничего не понимаю.

🤞Lauke nebešalta, or how we say ‘not anymore’ in Lithuanian

ENG🙌

If you want to say that it’s not cold anymore, you don’t drink coffee anymore or you and that guy X are not friends anymore, you have to memorize this useful word ‘nebe’!

It can be added to:

✨verbs (as in ‘nebelyja’ – it’s not raining anymore)

✨nouns (as in ‘jie nebe draugai’ – they aren’t friends anymore)

✨adjectives (as in ‘jis nebegeras’ - he’s not good anymore)

✨adverbs (as in ‘nebedaug liko’ – not much is left)

O ko tu nebedarai?
Aš tai neberenku žibuoklių 😞

RU🙌

🤞Lauke nebešalta,

O ko tu nebedarai?
Aš tai neberenku žibuoklių😞
