What Censorship Really Tries to Hide 05/05/2026

By sheer serendipity, Diljit Dosanjh’s seismic appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon landed just in time for the latest episode of “Shall we Check it out?” that covers his newest film, in which he plays the Elvis of Punjab, Amar Singh Chamkila.
I couldn’t begin to grasp the full cultural weight of this award-winning film on my own. Thankfully, Prof. Sarunas Paunksnis stepped in to unpack the dense cultural and social layers running through it. I strongly recommend tuning in to hear him pour out a treasure trove of insight on Punjabi culture in particular and Indian cinema in general.

Does Media Accurately Represent us? 08/04/2026

You cannot be only partially inclusive! You're either all in or you're simply not inclusive.
That's the main takeaway from my eye-opening conversation with a global diversity and inclusion leader and #1 New York Times bestselling author of “Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, a Guide Dog & the Triumph of Trust”, Michael Hingson Author/Speaker.
Blind from birth, Michael was raised by sighted parents who instilled in him a strong can-do spirit. After nearly three decades in management positions at various high-tech companies, Michael’s life changed dramatically on the 11th of September in 2001, when he and his guide dog, Roselle, escaped from the 78th floor of Tower One in the World Trade Center just moments before it collapsed.
In this new episode of "Shall we Check it out?", Michael shared many valuable insights on why representation in media matters and what we can all do to make it more accurate and fair.

How Real does 'The Diplomat' Get? 19/01/2026

As the award season rolls out, the podcast series "Shall we Check it out?" resumes!
In the newest episode, Aiste Ptakauske explores the critically acclaimed political thriller The Diplomat that, yet again, didn't get a Golden Globe, but did receive the American Film Institute Television Program of the Year award for providing 'a complex, rich, visual record of our modern world.'
To examine how accurate this record is, Aiste is joined by Nina and Sean Murray, a husband‑and‑wife team who—very much like the central characters of the show—spent the better part of their careers in the U.S. diplomatic service.
What a privilege to host guests that bring equally deep expertise in both diplomacy and writing!
The discussion focused on what the show gets right, where it stretches reality, and how both diplomacy and writing about it works in practice.
