Debates are running in British parliamentary debating style, the most popular style of intercollegiate debating in the world, which originated in the mid 1800s. The most prestigious competitions are annual the Cambridge and Oxford debate tournaments, where the best debaters compete with each other, you as well have an opportunity to participate in those international tournaments on behalf of the MRU Debate society.
Below you can find a link to the beginner’s guide in British Parliamentary Debate. It explains the structure of this style of debate in detail. New tradition are made in MRU Debate Society!
MRU Debate society congratulates the newly elected MRU rector Inga Žalėnienė! We wish her good luck in her future endeavors. We are also grateful to one of the candidates Andrius Bielskis for taking part in the debates with elected rector that took place in MRU last week. Meanwhile during the debates, we examined everyday “student life” topics, and got an idea of the what is ahead in terms of university’s policies and the plan of action.
New tradition of rector debates was created that day, and we sure intend to keep it that way.
Of course, we are thankful to Rokas Daugirdas (MRU Debate Society president) and Virgis Valentinavičius (Director of the Communication Institute) for being skillful moderators!
