We invite you to discover another lesser-known link between Lithuania, Poland and Japan - the ethnologist Bronisław Piłsudski. Born in Zalavas Manor (present-day Švenčionys District) and educated in Vilnius, Bronislovas was exiled as a prisoner to Sakhalin Island in 1887, where he developed an interest in the indigenous peoples and began to collect material on their language, culture and daily life. His connection to Japan was a marriage with an Ainu woman and several years spent on the northern island of Hokkaido. His rich heritage (Ainu language dictionary, photographs, texts) has made him one of the most important researchers of the Ainu people in history.
If you are intrigued by these few details from the life of Bronislaw Pilsudski, come to a lecture by Japanese Professor Kazuhiko Sawada on 25 April at the Palace of the Grand Dukes in Vilnius. More information about Bronislaw Pilsudski can also be found on the page dedicated to the history of Lithuanian-Japanese relations ritoja.lt - https://ritoja.lt/en/pirmieji-lietuviai-japonijoje-en/
