Good health and safety measures always make sense. Regardless of whether you run an international company or own a small business, fewer workplace accidents and cases of work-related illness directly lead to better company performance. Healthy and safe workplaces increase employee motivation and commitment. Good occupational safety and health is also your company’s calling card, helping you attract new talent, clients, and investors. 👷🏼‍♂️👷🏽‍♀️

Construction Safety: Lithuania 🇱🇹 vs Sweden 🇸🇪

Working in construction, safety should always come first — but in reality, standards and practices still differ between countries.

Lithuania:
• Safety requirements exist, but are sometimes more “on paper”
• Trainings and briefings can feel formal rather than practical
• Control and supervision are not always consistent
• Fines are relatively low (often a few hundred euros)
• There can still be a “get the job done faster” mindset

Sweden:
• Clear rules with strict enforcement
• Mandatory training, certifications, and regular inspections
• Strong focus on prevention and risk assessment before work
• Fines can reach thousands of euros or even stop the project
• Safety is part of the work culture, not an option

💡 Key difference:
In Sweden, safety is a daily standard. In Lithuania, we are moving in the same direction, but consistency is still growing.

👉 At the end of the day, rules are not about fines — they are about making sure everyone gets home safe.

🇸🇪 Work Safety for Lithuanians in Sweden’s Construction Sector 🇱🇹

Working in Sweden’s construction industry offers great opportunities — but safety always comes first.

If you are a Lithuanian working on construction sites in Sweden, it’s essential to understand and follow local safety requirements:

🔹 Mandatory Safety Training
Most sites require a valid ID06 card and proof of completed safety training (such as Safe Construction Training).

🔹 Work Environment Responsibility
In Sweden, employers and site managers follow strict rules based on the Work Environment Act. Everyone on-site shares responsibility for safety.

🔹 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Always use required PPE: helmet, safety shoes, high-visibility clothing, and other equipment depending on your tasks.

🔹 Communication & Language
Even if you don’t speak Swedish fluently, it’s important to understand basic safety instructions. Many courses are available in English or other languages.

🔹 Know Your Rights
You have the right to a safe workplace. If something feels unsafe — speak up.

💡 At Scandiq Work Safety, we help you get certified, prepared, and confident to work safely in Sweden.

DEBATT: Arbetslivskriminaliteten hotar Uppsalas seriösa byggföretag 16/03/2026

At the end of January, construction industry, along with several other industries, introduced new rules in our own identification system ID06. Anyone who orders an ID06 card will need to strengthen their identity with a passport or national ID card.
Business can do our part to combat workplace crime. Now the concerned authorities also need to be given the opportunity to scale up, and sharpen, their efforts:

✍️ Stop social security fraud
✍️ Facilitate opportunities for serious companies to make checks.
✍️ Establish a national office against workplace crime.

- Hard-fighting business owners should not be forced to compete against various forms of exploitation, money laundering and tax offenses, writes Malin Lejskog, industry and association manager, Construction Company, in Upsala Nya Tidning.

⚠️ Working in construction in Sweden? Safety training is not optional.

If you work on a construction site in Sweden without the required safety courses, the consequences can be serious:

💰 Companies can receive sanction fees up to 1,000,000 SEK
🛑 Authorities can stop work on the entire construction site
⚖️ In case of accidents, companies may face corporate fines up to 10 million SEK

Swedish regulations are strict because construction is a high-risk industry. Proper safety training protects workers, prevents accidents, and keeps companies compliant with the law.

✅ Make sure you and your team have the required construction safety training before starting work.

✔️ Sugriuvo laikina atrama, žmonių tuo metu nebuvo
