By 1943, the 18-meter vessel had been successfully tested in summer conditions, but the British Admiralty had several questions for the engineers: they asked for increased deck strength for landing heavy bombers and additional protection against torpedoes from German submarines. For these modifications it was necessary to strengthen the metal frame of the ship, which resulted in additional monetary and, most importantly, time expenditures. The project no longer seemed a panacea for German superiority at sea, especially since by the end of 1943 the situation in the war turned in favor of the Allies. Britain finally managed to overcome the shortage of steel and establish the production of cheap aircraft carriers. The unusual project was gradually forgotten and remained only in the form of drawings. The test copy of the ship soon melted away, leaving behind a metal skeleton.

In the 1960s and 1970s, relations between China and the United States escalated to the extreme. The dispute between the states arose over the so-called "Taiwan issue": the Kuomintang group, which had taken refuge on the island of Taiwan, opposed the Chinese government and was supported by the United States. Of course, the Chinese government did not like it very much.

The U.S., however, was not at all concerned. The much more developed American air force visited Taiwan without hindrance and made reconnaissance flights over Chinese territory.

On October 18, 1867, the territory of Alaska with an area of 1519000 km2 was transferred by the Russian Empire into the possession of the United States of America for 7.2 million dollars. It turns out that for each square kilometer of the new territory, the American government paid $4.74.

The true riches of the new territory were discovered later, when the lands of Alaska found huge reserves of minerals. In the middle of the 19th century the Russian Empire urgently needed money for modernization of production facilities and construction of new railroads. In 1626, Dutch colonists who landed on the shore of the island now known as Manhattan met local natives. Not thinking long, the Europeans offered the Indians to give them the island, exchanging it for 60 guilders (a sum equivalent to $24) and key chains with beads: apparently, everything that the colonists had in their pockets was offered for exchange. When the 87.5 km2 island was really worth $24 and a few trinkets, the Indians agreed to the deal.

By 1876, the Western Union Company, headed by President William Orton, was a monopoly in the market for telegraph services. And when William Orton was offered a patent for the newly invented telephone, he only grinned and said that he did not see any commercial prospects for the telephone and the future belonged to the telegraph, adding that the telephone could be considered only as a "toy for children".

Already in 2 years, when telephone communication began to spread rapidly around the world, Western Union realized what a mistake they had made.
