Diacomet Horizon Europe project advancing ethical and accountable communication. What is DIACOMET? What DIACOMET promises? How will DIACOMET fulfil its promise?

The EU funded Horizon Europe project Fostering capacity building for civic resilience and participation: Dialogic communication ethics and accountability

What’s the problem? The existing framework of public communication does not empower citizens to influence the ways the media institutions and actors operate in European democracies. Digital communication enormously expands the ways of human inte

raction for good, but also challenges European societies by spread of hate speech, disinformation, and instigation of conflicts. DIACOMET contributes to the advancement of ethical and accountable communication by fostering capacity building for civic resilience against information distortions and promoting civic accountability. DIACOMET aims to generate a concept of dialogic communication ethics (DCE), which would provide a framework for an inclusive model of accountability mechanisms that combine media accountability (the level of organisations) with civic accountability (the level of citizens) and is guided by a Civic Code of Good Communication Conduct (CGC) (a new type of code of communication ethics). DIACOMET will also create an interactive ‘dilemma game’ and a forum for learning and discussion. DIACOMET proposes to establish a European network of civic accountability bodies for supporting individuals, groups and organizations to implement the CGC, and to assist in managing ethical issues emerging in public communication. "I will always defend talking to everybody. The easiest part is not to talk to anybody; it is sometimes more difficult to stay in a dialogue and have the guts to explain why this is important. Dialogue really helps people who disagree to remain part of the same society," our guest emphasized.

"The platforms have become a rogue actor in this; they are part of the problem. They are cornering the market of data and cognition, and they are now part of an ideology, an ideological agenda that is not pro-human," our guest emphasized.
