Meet our first female professor, Prof. Seroala Tsoeu-Ntokoane
Department of Political and Administrative Studies (PAS), National University of Lesotho (NUL)

Prof. Seroala Tsoeu-Ntokoane is an Associate Professor in PAS and the first female professor to emerge from the Department since its founding. She has built a distinguished academic career spanning more than two decades of university teaching, research, postgraduate supervision and academic service.

She teaches and conducts research in public policy, public administration, development management, governance, comparative foreign policies and research methods. Her research interests also extend to decentralisation, informal economies, climate politics, energy democracy, rural electrification and the politics of energy transitions in Lesotho and across Africa.
Prof. Tsoeu-Ntokoane has served the Department in several leadership and administrative roles, including as Head of the Department of Political and Administrative Studies from 2023 to 2025. She is also a Senior Research Associate at the NUL Energy Research Centre, where she contributes to interdisciplinary research on energy democracy and justice, community participation and sustainable energy transitions.

Her scholarly work has appeared in international peer-reviewed journals, including Cogent Social Sciences, Oxford Open Energy and Discover Energy. Her recent publications examine energy democracy, community engagement in renewable energy projects and household transitions towards cleaner energy solutions in Lesotho.

Beyond the University, Prof. Tsoeu-Ntokoane has contributed to research, policy dialogue and consultancy work involving government institutions, civil society organisations and international development partners. She has participated in academic and policy forums in Lesotho, Southern Africa and internationally, while continuing to mentor emerging scholars and supervise postgraduate research.
Her work reflects the Department of Political and Administrative Studies' commitment to producing scholarship that connects public policy and governance research with the practical development challenges facing Lesotho and the wider African region. The Faculty of Social Sciences is proud to celebrate one of our own — Lebohang Masoabi, a graduating BA Economics student, who has been selected to join the prestigious 2026 Africa Macroeconomic Analysts Program (AMAP)!

Out of a highly competitive pool of applicants from across the continent, only 64 scholars were selected and Lebohang is one of them. This achievement reflects not only strong academic performance, but the sharp analytical thinking and dedication to macroeconomics that our department of economics strives to build in every student.

As Lebohang prepares to graduate this September, this selection is a fitting testament to the hard work and passion that defined his journey at the National University of Lesotho.

🎓✨ A Proud Moment for the Faculty of Social Sciences, NUL!

The Faculty of Social Sciences is delighted to celebrate the official launch of the Certificate in Personal Finance Management Programme, a landmark collaboration between the Central Bank of Lesotho (CBL) and the National University of Lesotho (NUL).

This initiative brings together the Bank, Academia, and Industry to tackle one of Lesotho’s most pressing socioeconomic challenges… over-indebtedness among salaried employees, by equipping Basotho with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed, responsible financial decisions.

As highlighted by CBL Governor Dr. Letete at the launch, financial literacy and personal attitudes toward money management are central to addressing this challenge. This programme, now proudly offered through NUL, responds directly to that call, empowering graduates with competencies in financial literacy and ethical decision-making, and strengthening the University’s academic offerings in personal finance.

We are especially proud that this collaboration reflects NUL’s longstanding commitment to applied, policy-relevant work that serves the people of Lesotho. From the CBL–NUL Roundtable on Over-Indebtedness to this certificate programme, our faculty continues to be at the heart of national conversations on financial wellbeing. 💡

A heartfelt thank you to the Central Bank of Lesotho for this generous partnership including the donation of finance-related books to support our students and to our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fajana, for championing this initiative.
