Corona Virus and the 2020 WBU-ICEVI General Assemblies:
Dear Members and Friends:
The World Blind Union (WBU), the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI), and the Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles (ONCE) are writing to provide information concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and its potential impact on the joint general assemblies planned for June in Madrid. We know you are all concerned about the Coronavirus and wish to assure you that the International Organizing Committee is meeting regularly to assess the current situation and to discuss options.
As you can imagine, this is a very, very complicated and fluid situation. Our local host, ONCE, is working on identifying the best option going forward and anticipates having specific information to announce by 25 March 2020.
Our greatest concern is the safety and security of our members. Accordingly, the three organizations – WBU, ICEVI, and ONCE – are actively monitoring the spread and potential impact of the Coronavirus. With health and safety as our top priority, we will provide regular updates about any impact of the Coronavirus on the joint general assemblies.
Together, we have and will continue to expand opportunities for blind and partially sighted children and adults around the world.
Sincerely yours,
The WBU/ICEVI/ONCE International Organizing Committee

Braille
Braille is a tactile writing system used by the blind and the visually impaired. It is traditionally written with embossed paper. Braille-users can read computer screens and other electronic supports thanks to refreshable braille displays. They can write braille with the original slate and stylus or type it on a braille writer, such as a portable braille note-taker, or on a computer that prints with a braille embosser.
Braille characters are small rectangular blocks called cells that contain tiny palpable bumps called raised dots. The number and arrangement of these dots distinguish one character from another.
