The SAARMSTE community mourns the passing of Dr Mamohato Makhechane (03 December 1983 – 19 February 2026), a SAARMSTE Fellow and a deeply respected scholar in science and mathematics education. Her dedication to scholarship, mentorship, and the advancement of science education touched many lives across our community.

We extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and students during this difficult time.

Colleagues and friends are warmly invited to join a hybrid memorial service celebrating her life and legacy.

Six members of the Lesotho Chapter presented their papers at the 34th SAARMSTE conference, hosted by the University of Johannesburg, SA. The conference ran from the 19th to 22nd January 2026, and some members continued with the writing clinic on the 23rd and 24th January 2026. The six members are (from left to right): Dr Lisene, Mr Janefeke, Mr Mohafa, Mr Koma, Prof Qhobela and Dr Raphoka.

Yesterday, on the 8th of November 2025, the SAARSMTE Lesotho Chapter proudly hosted a conference at the American Corner in Maseru!

With the theme: "STEM Education in the Digital Age: Embracing Impactful Practices and Harnessing Technology for Innovative and Sustainable Education", the event brought together passionate researchers, students and technology enthusiasts to explore the future of learning in our rapidly evolving digital world.

💡 Highlights included:

- Insightful keynote speech from the Executive Director of the Generative AI for Education and Research in Africa (GenAI-ERA) Network, Mr Mathew Nyaaba. His topic was "AI AND DIGITAL NEOCOLONIALISM: MITIGATION STRATEGIES FOR THE GLOBAL SOUTH."

- Presentations of Research papers on STEM education in the Digital Age.

This conference marked a bold step forward in reimagining education for the 21st century, where innovation and technology empowers every learner.
